Hi all,the cars been running fine. However other the last few days,i've been driving the car sensible but within 10mins its at 100 and still rises,i get a smell of burning(think its water/coolant) but cant find any leaks anywere on the system, the fan kicks in at 90 still but it gets hotter. The water/coolant is full to the brim and not getting any wet patchs behind me or under the car

Any ideas?

sounds like a possible head gasket failure to me or you have a faulty thermostat which isnt opening. try replacing thermo first and if still same, get the head gasket looked at! :)

Are you sure the water pump hasn't failed?
If the vanes on the pump have corroded it wont be providing enough water flow through the rad to cool it, + you wont actually be losing any water. (y)

Only fill coolant to the max point, as a general rule. Sounds like you temp sensor and fan switch are ok.

You might have head gasket problems, the smell of burning is an indication of this aswell as the temp rise. Although you would be seeing poor performance and a bit of misfiring if it is.

Water loss is NOT always a sign of a blown head gasket, so even though you might be having no water loss, you still may have hg problems. :(

When mine went, i was seeing temperatures of 100-110 degrees, had a burning smell, no water loss, a bit of misfiring at low revs, and also the car sounded as if the exhaust was blowing.

Check out the water pump first though :)

that sounds like mine at the minute!! my gauge is reading 100-110, no water loss but mild burning smell and my exhaust has a wee bit of a grumble and its really lumpy at idle!!

If you get it from fiat the set is about £35 quid, that is the complete set with everything you need, manifold, exhaust and thermostat gaskets included.

Everything in the set is genuine fiat and looks top quality. I would definitely recommend spending the extra and getting the genuine fiat parts as the old gasket on my car was an aftermarket part and looked pretty poor quality in comparison (and completely shot!).

Also get a new cambelt, about £5 from halfords and fit that at the same time
