Looking at vented discs for the load of having a full car practicaly all the time. Seen a set of brembo vented discs for about 20 quid but will i need new calipers or will they work with the existing or will i have to find some drilled and grooved discs ?

A set of new standard discs and quality pads are more than adequate for this size car unless you like track days. The Mk 1,2,3 1.1/1.2 Punto runs the same discs and are a lot heavier cars.

I agree, I'm yet to try a track day but I can't get mine to fade no matter how fast I drive on the road :slayer: I've got some drilled discs with some OMP road and sport pads, it stops so much better than standard. Although you have to be careful when they're cold but once you get some heat in them they get stronger and stronger :D

Its more of a worry with 5 lads in the car and on its arse its a fair weight to be stopping even thought i have had only one brake fail yet its just probiably a precaution as to prelong or reduce if ever an incident not only that i do motorsport in college and i can compete but with my own car (collegeinsurence) so i may be tempted into trackdays and sprint events

The 252mm vented discs are a waste of time for road use and an unwanted weight gain on the front end.

I have the Bravo 16v 252mm non vented setup on mine and they have the same stopping power as the vented ones but discs are a lot cheaper and lighter. To make full use of the stopping power you need some very sticky rubber, lowered short shocks with stiff springs.

If you want to go track days then uprate the pads, but the car will be short of about 100Hp to test the brakes on most tracks. ;)

Make sure that the standard brakes are working properly.

Has the fluid been changed in the last 24 months? If not, get it done.

Make sure the calipers are sliding properly, if not you'll have only one pad bearing on the disk.

Are the discs worn beyond their wear limit, they are cheap as chips to replace, don't scrimp.

Are the pads the best quality?

And most importantly

Are the rears working properly? They are usually ignored but play a greater part in stopping if the arse of the car is on the ground

Cheers

I could -- maybe -- countenance the less unsprung weight argument. It may be that going vented is OTT, that fade really isn't an issue (although I'd hate to find out -- that really might turn into destruction testing!) but at £20 a hit, the rotors are not exactly costly, and my guess is that a scrappy will charge the same for vented and non vented type Marea calipers -- hell, they'd have to measure the sliders to know the difference.

As is, I'm happy knowing my Centos can stop at least as well as my T5 or the MR2 tub.

i have marea vented discs on my sei (less effort needed to stop and i don't need to find out about fade, fade and crash, not a good way to test the theory) i can't feel any differance with the handling/weight of the setup but hot days long down hills with 5 guys in the car still stops well (y)
