On Saturday I did 162 miles on the A1/A19 and used 12.3 liters of petrol, thats 59.98 mpg and i was stuck for 30 mins on the way when some animals got on the road,so did some first gear crawling for a mile or so.
i probably drive like an old wooftah

Not bad going, had 60.9 mpg out of a classic panda a few years back on a run from Liverpool to Norwich :D

What cruising speed were you at out of interest

Talking of cruising speed.... I'm not to sure why, maybe the high revs in 5th so right in the power band? my seicento sporting seems to give great mpg at around 75-80 :D I made it about 55+ mpg

(strangely this was also fully loaded with most of my belongings and a passenger)

you should get 60 or more cruising at 60 to 70 on that trip boring but cheaper accelerate to 70 up hills lift off and drop to 60 down hills stay at 60 on flat
1700 rpm on trlaling throttle is most eff but boring

I disagree, 60-70 is going to kill MPG, 50-55, 60 at a push, is going to be best from experience with the Panda's, which are not to disimilar under the bonnet.

Because i drive at 60-70 on motorway i am throwing money away ?

I value my time more than the extra gained from the 2-5 MPG.

If am truly concern i would just cycle everywhere to be honest.

Ming

Each to their own, its more than just time gained, more stress etc also, for 5-10 min saved on a 3 hour journey.....

i drive a 1999 cei sporting. i use it for delivering takeaways, i get about 40 mpg around town and thats alot of stopping and starting mines a spi engine

I find driving economically more stressful and more tiring that just driving without worrying about the mpg and just keeping to the speed limits and/or the flow of traffic. Besides which i find the alfa does the most mpg if you get upto speed as quickly as possible and then just whack it on cruise control, speeding up casually seems to just use alot more fuel than a quick burst of power.

Im same as blu - the quicker it is the better the MPG so long as its constant and not up and down, this is where i really need to get cruise control retro-fitted so can be more constant

But i am twice the engine capacity what is being discussed on here so probably not beneficial to be going quicker in the weedy engine cars

I also find economy driving stressful and get bored, especially near journeys end and i always come across some t*t who is driving half a mph quicker or slower than you so you have to put your foot down and then it ruins everything!

I dont really speed since i had my major crash but wont sit on the inside lane at 55mph to squeeze and extra mile out of car - i go with the flow of the traffic - if ive saved a few quid and done alright, so be it, if i havent - meh

People who get a thrill out of knowing theyve saved 2 quid for every long journey theyve been on more than likely live at home with their parents, have probably never been laid and play world of warcraft all night browsing the internet for next add on pack

I dont begrudge these individuals doing what they are doing driving wise though let me add, and some its probably necessary to be a bit more economical - for example a delivery driver or a travelling salesman or those that do 20/30k a year in the car

And lets not forget - theres always a remap - you'll also see an increase in MPG going that route and it will pay for itself over time and you dont have to drive like an anus
