I am fitting a new radio/cd to my sei. It requires a 12v Yellow direct feed and a 12v switched Red supply from the ACC on ignition switch. As there is no ACC on my ignition, I will fit a toggle switch somewhere on my dashboard, it will be fed from the constant 12v supply from the input side of the hazard warning light switch in the center of the switch cluster. I do not want the radio to have a constant live supply by joining the red and yellow wires together. The output side of the toggle switch will supply a 12v feed to the red input on the radio. Basically the toggle switch is standing in for the non existent ACC on the ignition. The reason I want to do this is I wish to use the radio/cd when parked without the engine running. I also wish to switch of the RED feed when radio is not being used. If anyone knows another easy way of doing this I will be happy to listen. My question is ! how to access the rear of the hazard switch, does it just pull out of the cluster, it is the round type as in fig 46 of the owners guide. I hope this all makes sense.

fingers.

I know that, it is because the radio has a constant 12v Red supply even if the ignition is off. There is no ACC provision on the ignition switch.

Please read my first post again, I do not want a permanent 12v red supply, my radio will not work like that. Hence the fitting of a switch to break the red supply.

Just to enlighten you.

The radio is a Pioneer.

It has two inputs the first is a constant 12v supply (yellow lead)
The second is a12v Red which is connected to a terminal which should be controlled by ignition switch. ACC.

Fiat ignition switches as you know do not have a ACC provision. On Fiat radios there is a constant 12v supply irrespective of whether the ignition is on or off.

According to Pioneer it is not advisable to have the 12v Red as a constant supply, if the radio is turned off with it's own on off switch it would still have the red live supply. Evidently this could cause the radio not to function properly.

Pioneer advise that the Red 12v supply is switched, normally this would be achieved if the ignition switch had a ACC provision. What with more and more cars not having an ACC on the ignition switch it is not possible to have the radio on when parked and the engine off. I have a Peugeot Expert as my main car, it is not possible to listen to the radio or use the 12v cigarette lighter without the ignition on and the engine running.

Where do I find ICE

All I wanted to know is how to access the rear of the hazard switch !!!!!!!

Undo the two bolts at the bottom of the switch panel assembly. Turn the fan speed to off, pull the knob off & remove the bolt you can now see. -Simples.

Hi all.

Thanks for all replies.

Everything is done and works fine.

I did see the guide (ignition). This is not what I wanted as it means the ignition will have to be on to use the radio, I want to use the radio when parked without the ignition on and engine running.
What I do now when parked and engine off, is turn on the toggle switched red 12v supply I fitted to the dash, this lets me use the radio. When finished and the radio is turned off, I turn the switch off breaking the 12v red supply. Simples

Well if you connected the radio switched 12v rail to the lighting circuit you can run the radio with the ignition switch either to run the engine or in the 'I want to leaive the lights on but withdraw the ignition key position', you don't need an extra switch.

But selecting ICE more carefully seems even easier I use Sony, it just plugs in. If you can leave the auto with the ICE on in error you need a bigger amp...

A toggle switch.... really?
With a little bit of effort (unless you have air-con) you could have done something similar to this

The toggle switch is hidden out of sight.

In the picture of the switches, which switch have you used to supply red 12v to radio?

Mike

My head unit is connected using the original ISO plug.
It has a button on the front of it to turn the power on & off, turning it off breaks the continuity so the 12v won't flow ;)
I'm a little confused about Pioneer are their internal components so cheap & nasty that they might go short circuit at any moment

The extra switch is fully functional -but it's not for the radio
