tbh looking at them results i am kinda hoping the compression tester wasn't tightened up enough on the dry test for cylinder 3 and that if i repeat it might be better.

What do the clever people of the cento section think here if we ignore cylinder 3, would you reckon the rings are ok if i retest dry and get 210+ on cylinder 3? I did feel the tester twist in my hand when i did that cylinder dry....
 
repeat test for confidence when you lift head.

may only need new rings for another 50k miles before rebuild Id not run engine until after strip just in case it is simple problem that might get worse

lift head use an old ring top and bottom of travel and depth gauge to keep square

id be gutted if it was mine sorry
 
Right once again, done not in a rush and averaged over 3 readings. Looks alot better than before.

Thinking it might just be the crank sensor tbh - only have punto ones which aren't long enough atm. might have to raid the sei just to test.

It lives, starts on the button again. And Mr Monster will be pleased to hear i managed to make a shorter punto one fit so seiT still runs too.

Spooky went to put some washer juice in the black Sei today and noticed my crank sensor looks like this:

Weird thing it is the engine mounts are solid and it's miles away from anything to rub on. :confused:

I guess it's probably been like that since I got it, all I've ever done to this car is put petrol in it and hose it down occasionally. Anyway best get it fixed before it leaves me stranded somewhere...

90% of breakdowns and intermittent issues on here seem crank sensor related. Thing is if the crank sensor is wonky the ecu thinks the engine is running at a different or irratic speed (if at all). Then all of a sudden none of the readings it's getting make sense anymore. It then trys to over-compensate, or run settings for the speed it thinks it's going. If it's getting an inconsisitent reading the result will be a complete mess. Quite likely it will start sparking/injecting fuel in completely the wrong positions. The crank sensor really is the achilles heel of these engines. In fact I think it's also the only sensor your engine won't run with disconected.

Anyway I'm glad you didn't pinch anything from the Sei, it's a slippery slope when you start doing this...
