Is there any way to check faults on an early (V plate) Sei? Checked for OBD port but there's none. Is there a diagnostic port that can be bridged with a paperclip or something?

Yeah the ecu's can be read, the mk1 sei's have a different diagnostic port in the engine bay close to the ecu, it's a little plug compared with the mk2 sei's having the bigger rectangle obd port inside the car similar to other modern cars.

It can be read with those skyes pickavant handheld machines too with the proper cable and pod,
but the method below is much more cost effective.

This is a useful link, with the info provided by ming,it's a good read worth checking out :)

Interesting, I don't have a windows laptop though, running linux, I have a reader in the post though. Any idea what protocol it is?

agreed, had many cinqs and spi sei's and never had a need to get a reader or anything, the engines are simple enough to not need one.. You only really need a wire and laptop and stuff if you want to log data on these really.

Whats your problem, why do you want to read the codes? Have you got the engine management light on or something?

Cheers for the offer, but I've got one now, can't get that program to work though. No worries, think I've found the fault anyway.
