Hi guys,

I'd like to start by saying I have a basic understanding of engines... very basic, with that in mind I follow with my question.

When im just sitting in the car, idle, I get an occasional judder, and as far as I can tell it doesn't follow a pattern, its almost as if it's random. sometimes it wont do it for a while then judder once, then not again for quite a while... sometimes it is juddering every 3 or 4 seconds til I rev it, then it goes for a while. it happens more often when i've been driving for a while and its even more noticeable in the wet

It's not violent juddering but it's noticeable.

Oh and very rarely, it also hesitates when i accelerate hard.

Can someone give me an idea of whats going on and if so, an estimated cost of getting it repaired, as I said, I have a very basic understanding of engines and I thought maybe a spark plug has snapped or built up a deposit? or my ignition leads are buggered :(

Thanks guys (y)

I remember once I saw a blue spark, like maybe 2 months ago?

So is it most likely just ignition leads?

Excuse me for being so dumb but I am just starting to really want to work on my car/ fix it myself and get to understand the workings of cars, so for now I'm a little dumb... hopefully it'll come with experience :p

Is it an easy job? i saw the leads for £15 on Eurocarparts
***EDIT***

Just remembered, sometimes when it hesitates, after it finally kicks in, EM light comes on for 20 seconds or so then goes!

Hi
Easy job buy four bits of black spaghetti, remove cover from coil packs, remove one of the bits of black spaghetti replace with new bit of same length repeat for other three bits.
If you remove more than one at a time you need to make notes, they only work one way...

okay, I'm probably being ridiculously stupid or am being mocked... what do you mean black spaghetti?

They are the ignition leads from the coil packs to the spark plus (x4).

Just do one lead at a time!!!

If stand in front of the car looking down at the engine (bonnet up) you will see 4 black ignition leads going to the spark plugs. From left to right number 1 spark plug, 2,3 & 4 spark plugs & ignition leads.

Start with number 1 spark plug, remove the ignition lead and follow the lead to the coil pack and replace accordingly. Repeat the process with the other 3 leads.

You may need to remove the front part of the air box, which is quite simple to do, enabling you to have better access to the number 2 & 3 leads.

okay thanks, is it a simple like pop off old ones, pop on new ones or are there any specialist tools I need? removing the airbox is a piece of p*ss as i know :) thanks

Yep just pull them off!

Taking them on or off, try to hold it from the widest part of the lead not the cable, especially from the spark plug end to prevent damage to the lead. I understand your leads may be old but you'd want to do that with the new one.
