Hi guys!! I've recently purchased a set of Sporting alloy wheels which I planned on fitting to my Sei SX 899cc. But I'm not fitting them this insurance year as I can't afford to declare them. However I've recently decided that the SX is going when the insurance runs out as I've set my heart on an Abarth or a Schumi (gotta be a red one tho lol). So I find myself in a position where I am looking to sell the alloys, but I'm unsure how much to sell them for, and that is where you lovely people come in, to point me in the right direction. I should also state that the wheels are currently being completely refurbished by me and my dad and should be done some time in the next couple of weeks.

The picture attached is two of the alloys all prepped, and ready for paint.

So, here's the description:

- When finished they will be flawless as all signs of curbing, chipping and flaking have been ground away, and will be painted silver.

- Comes with a complete set of the black Fiat centre caps.

- All four tyres are the same (Nankang Toursport 611's 165/55/13, two of which are brand new, the other two are part worn but still have very good legal tread) I know these tyres are knicknamed "Hedgefinders" but I like to look at it as that it all adds to the fun!!

- Also comes with the correct wheel bolts (x16)

The final issue I have with the alloys is that I've seen on other threads that these should come with two 3mm spacers for the front, but I didn't get any with the wheels. So I'm not sure whether I should get some so I can sell these a complete set, ready to just pop on and go. I can get some universal ones for £7 so would I get my money back if I get them??

I suppose, but just wanted to give the full picture. And I can always just copy and paste when I stick them on eBay. I understand that they're only OE alloys but I was just looking for a ball park figure for them tbh...

People are selling curbed ones for £40-£60 a wheel. Mine are flawless, complete and have got £80 worth of new tyres on them.

Hi

You have answered your own question then, but Mug Punter is not on line at the moment so you will need to putthe wheels in the forum shop or/and e-bay.

just out of interest, how much is an Abarth or Schumi going to cost you to insure?

I wouldn't have thought the alloys would have made too much difference to your premium on a 899cc car, compared to the 1.1's?

I've been watching alloys and it's only trade sellers that are asking the high prices, private sellers in sets go for much less. In fact I don't think the trade ones ever get sold, just relisted!

Good look with the resto/sale :)

I suppose I have really reading it back Pep0. Just wondering if that would be an realistic figure...

And cheekylittlescamp, I'm not getting rid of the 899 coz I want a car that has alloys as standard, it's going because I want a bit more power that I'll get from the 1108 and I think the abarth/schumi's are very nice looking little motors.

Also to declare these alloys on the 899 would cost me £143 (I checked with insurer). And looking at quotes online I'm looking at just over a grand to get insured on a Schumi which isn't bad seeing as I'm only 17 (18 next week) and am looking for my 2nd year of driving. It cost me a lot more for this current year with the 899. Thanks.

Hi

If you put them in the forum at a realistic price they should eventually sell, but the supply and demand is against you...

As most people will prefer custom wheels and/or 14 inch.

Every one breaking a sporting will be dumping four rims, spacers, bolts, and keys, lots of the sportings are damaged in accidents...

So it is only the basic trim people who might consider OEM alloys

I hope you did not pay too much for them.

P.S. A 143£ hike for aluminum wheels seems high did you shop around for other quotes?

I can't shop around for a better quote, I am in the middle of a policy so there's not much I can do about it... However been chatting to a mate of mine who also has a 899 and we have a gentlemans agreement of £200 for the set. Just waiting to c how much his policy will increase as to whether the deal goes ahead or not. So fingers crossed, I might get a tidy little profit!!

Hi

Good news on potential sale.

But you can shop around for a quote, e.g. you say to new ins company 6 months (whatever) no claims discount earned already, how much for a cing with sporting alloys, You also ask the current company how much they give you back if you cancel the contract. If they ask why tell them the 143£ is silly for a cosmetic accessory. The wont like losing a customer though they might think you were bluffing.

Subtract one from the other, they dont charge you for asking questions...

It is best to have the autos planned new build state frozen before you do next years insurance... they charge a lot for the admin, that they swallow for a new policy.

Noel
P.S. if you are fitting wider wheels then it would be desirable to fit sporting dampers, to drop the ride height/suspension travel to sporting parameters. But cheaper to get a sporting and keep it standard OEM parts...

Think id take the alloys off and sell the tyres seperately- They are the most desirable bit, especially if they are the rare stupid size OE tyre

Id scrap or sell the alloys themselves for scrap price
