I've been hearing this knocking noise from my rear suspension for the last couple hundred miles. The car didn't drive any differently so I left it for a while.

Looked under the car on the driver side and to my horror the upper suspension mount had completely broken off! (see photos)

Is this the end of my cinq? Is this a common problem? Is it safe to drive with no shock?

I guess it's fixable by replacing the rear sub frame but is this fix worth it?

Yes. It's only 4 bolts!

That makes it sound way to easy! Just seems to be one thing after another with this car at the moment!

The rear axel swop is easy , 4 bolts from under neeth , and the axel will drop out

all 19 mm bolts , , i payed £20 for my beam and arms and springs and dampers from the brakers

man first time i seen this happen !!

Just replace the rear axel

Get a good sub-frame from a breaker. You might also need to invest in a pair of new dampers if your one was damaged (replace as a pair) and you'll probably need a whole lot of WD40 or PlusGas.

But you can take everything off pretty easily and re-fit with the new bits.


If your subframe is still robust (apart from the bit that collapsed) you might be able to have someone fabricate and weld on a new bracket... but I think the labour involved will cost more than just sticking a new (2nd-hand) subframe on there.

That Jiminwatford or something will sell you one sent to your door. So no need to remove anything yourself.

But prepare to need to new hard pipes on the arm. Fluffy do them.

Well, it'll be much more sellable if you fix it! I'd get the cross beam and everythinhg that hangs from it (suspension, trailing arms, brakes, hubs).

Whereabouts in Cornwall are you if you can get the car to me in Somerset then it should only take about a day to repair that I can even make it better than it was either that or I can see if chras has got one when I go up to pick some parts up soon

Breaking a whole cinq - be happy to give it dirt cheap.

I can vouch for black box's work too.
