new thermostat and fan valve ..... do i need gasket sealant silicone with the new thermostat gasket ?

Hi

Yes use the gasket rubber, but remove all old gasket traces first from engine, plastic kitchen scouring pad is useful.

either a thin smear of rubber on both sides of the paper gasket
or a thin bead in a circle again both sides of paper gasket.

Let the rubber cure for 30 minutes indoors where it is warm, coat one surface of metal with a trace of oil, and the bolts with a trace of grease on first two threads. Then bolt up tight but dont use much torque you can strip threads.

If you then leave it overnight before refilling it wont leak...
