General Reverse gear gone

Heyy,
In the past my boyfriends always dealt with the car fixing it and what not as I am rather useless haha but his own car is being a drama queen and he can't seem to figure out what mines doing wrong.
A couple of weeks ago my reverse gear stopped working, I could push the gear stick down and pull it over but not slot it in but now I can even push the gear stick dow. It happened all of a sudden with no grinding or anything as warning. The rest of the gears are fine, no grinding or sticking as you'd normally see with a failing gear box? I was wondering if anybody has had the same issue or something similar and if so cause and how to fix ? Thank you x

Can't even push the lever down? Sounds to me that the mechanism inside the gearlever itself has failed, so that the detente can't be undone. (Usually if the cable has failed, first becomes difficult as well.)

Strip lever if you can, and investigate.

i take it this is the cinquecento.

Make sure the cable is clip onto the gearstick probably.

Thanks guys. Would the clip be near the top of the gear stick? Sorry to be a bit vague I just don't know much haha

yeah unclip the gator, the cable should be firmly clipped onto the gear stick. is a quick check .
