Hi first post so please be gentle with me,
now I have been a lurker for a while and have found the site very informative and a great help getting to know this brilliant little car. Now the car is my son’s first car a 2001 seicento sporting mpi.
It has just failed its mot and I’m looking for some help and advice on repairing the following.

Offside front brake application uneven
Offside rear brake binding
Front brakes imbalanced

Any ideas on how to rectify these problems would be gratefully received. I am hoping to fix the problems myself to keep costs down.
Sorry for such a long first post and thanks for taking the time to read this and look forward to your replies.
Many thanks
phil

The rear binding could be the cable sticking on that side or the linkages from the end of the cable to the shoes inside the drum.
If you look under the back of the car, you can see the linkage sticking out and the cable connecting to it. Watch them while someone else works the lever in the car (no need to jack the car) and see if they both move/release.

The uneven front could be poor pad/disc wear or pad material build-up on the disc where someone has sat stationary with their foot on the brake..

thanks Dave hopefully a relativity simple fix. are the brakes fairly straightforward to work on ?.

This and an old screwdriver whuch fits down the hole, but just allows enough room for the spring to go past it.

Tension the spring with the hook tool, pass the screwdriver through the hoop and into the hole. Lever against the spring and the spring will slide down the screwdriver swo you can just poke it into the hole.

hi
Had a look at the brakes over the weekend and not as good as i first hoped. started with the rears found the problem to be a snapped hand brake actuator so at least a fairly simple fix. now the front's i thought that might be a case of some new pads however having now had a look the pads look nearly new. so am i right in thinking the only other thing it could be is the calliper piston? they arnt leaking any fluid and the rubbers look OK but the piston look a bit rusty on the very ends but they seam the move freely. is there a overhaul kit available or is it a case of having to replace the calliper?

Had similar problem with the mrs punto mk1 sporting and all i did with the even though hers were only 10% worn and discs on changed the brake fluid and all is good again and confirmed by the brake rollers at work and do you know when the brake fluid was last changed??? i do mine every 3 years(y)

Thanks for all your input. I have no idea when the brake fluid was last changed so that might be a good idea any way. I think I will replace the pads anyway as I have them and give the callipers a good clean a plenty of cooper slip and hope that dose the trick
