Which Air filter should I use for more MPG and possibly more HP?

I have a Seicento 99 spi sporting and was wondering if this would be a good idea?

Have this behind my bonnet with the intake hose -

and either one of these in my original air box -

Just wondering if its all worth the money and if their are any real life binefits.

Thanks :D

So the filters are just a waste of time and money?... Shocker :bang:

I cant find that Fiat Performance Site.

Not entirely, but anyone who tells you they'll make your car instantly faster is pulling your plonker.
I cant find that Fiat Performance Site.

Peter seems to have split the GSR stuff off a little from PerformanceFIAT. Performance FIAT is here while GSR have a new (but, I think, not quite finished yet) site here.

Great, thanks alot.
I knew that I wouldn't get a noticable speed increase but really just wanted a higher MPG...
My air filter is rather grimy and my air intake is the standard stupid little metal coil pipe which hangs by the bumber. I'm thinking of cutting some pipe and attatching it to a more air friendly position (My dads a plumber so any welding or jointing is not a problem (y)).

It just seems that my intake is just taking in dirty and hot air all the time, the pipe by the bumper gets very warm after 5 mins of driving.

Thanks again.:worship:

Haha.. Basicly I have everything standard when it comes to air intake.
Its just the intake pipe from the bumber is crap and is hidden behind the bumper so it isnt getting a great deal of air flow... I was wondering if I could do something to increase air flow into the engine and if any of the air filters listed would be benificial over the fiat standard air filter.

the gsr is good because it positions the air filter in the coldest part of the bay, which just happens to be where the inlet for the stock airbox is  fiat are pretty clever you know ;) your not really gonna get better airflow to it without taking the headlight off or sticking a bonnet scoop on it or something.. But if you do that you need somewhere for that air to go as it finds the route of least resistance which would be around the car not through the engine bay - so if you have a big scoop then you really need rear facing vents of some type in order to get an actual flow of air..

does that make sense?

>blu73< I know what you mean but it just seems that the entire airflow system.. the pipes and everything is just way too hot.. even if cold air is coming in, it will be warmed up by the pipes.

And fingers, the GSR seems to by around £150+ and like you said, they don't come with a massive bang for buck.

I may play around with a few things to see what I can get out of it. Oil and oil filter change tomorrow so it gives me a chance to give it a look.

(y) Thanks

Well they are hot little engines so yeah it gets hot under there.. Nothing stopping you making your own version of a GSR.. I remember Adz182 made an induction kit out of bit of drainpipe from B&Q and got pretty good results. And quite alot of other people made there own home-made kits. At the end of the day a GSR is just a reducer and 90 degree bend.

Thats kinda.. amazing.. A good piece of kit..

I give it a go, get my dad to weld somthing together for me...

Just shows car tinkering never dies....

airfilters alone will probably lose you a couple bhp not gain any.only way to add extra bhp from an air filter is to add exhaust and have it chipped/mapped for the mods.when i first added induction kit to my scooby i actually lost 8 bhp but after mappring was up 11 bhp.all you will gain is lots of induction noise.(n)

I thought that the ECU had a rather good learning cycle.. around 300 miles to take effect of new conditions?
I need a new air filter anyway for my stock air box, I may pay a little extra for one of those washable ones...;)

I recently noticed a lack of power, I put a new fuel filter in and it could possibly seem a little better.. I also noticed that the second box from the back of my exhaust started to blow air out.. could this make me loose power aswell?

Thanks again

your down the road from me im near abercynon :) you could come n try my itg pro filter if it helps, supposed to let 99% of air through the filter, also gazzaman has ecu chips for sale for 12 quid for spi but you need to look in ur ecu and see if its soldered in or fitted in a socket smoky x

>Smoky< Yh sure, If you don't mind I'd like to try yours and see if there is any difference...
and I'v just found out that my exhaust needs a full swop excluding cat.. So I need to find a second hand one now :/
