Had a quick look today for the switch for the cooling fan but couldn't see it. Where is it located?

The background is that my wife took my daughter (a new learner) out to learn to drive, and spent some time moving off and stopping. The engine overheated and dumped a lot of coolant. I pressure tested the cooling system today using a bit of 8 mm copper pipe plugged into the hose going to the bleed point for the heater. I connected this to a gauge with a tyre valve on it that I test central heating systems with. It let air out at the filler neck at around 13 psi. I retested it at 10 psi and it didn't drop over a 2 hour period. I might get away without replacing the head gasket.

Just need to find the switch so I can bridge it and see if the fan works.

It'll be an MPI car, so the fan is switched by the ECU. Bridging that isn't to be recommended!

You can test the fan itself by applying removing the connector and applying 12v directly to the fan. If that gets no result (or, rather, if the fan works), there's a diagram in the Seicento Technical Manual (in the downloads section).

You want Volume 4/Section 1/Engine Command.pdf

Thanks for the information about the ecu switching the fan, I havn't come across this before. I'll test the fan tomorrow. I'll take the connector off first, as you pointed ou,t bridging out connectors on the ecu is not recommended.

It's said -- I only found it recently, and have not tested it -- that unplugging the connector to the green temperature sender (next to the thermopstat, on the inlet manifold) will cause the ECU light to come on, the temperature warning light to come on and the fan to come on (assuming it works!). You have to go through the routine of starting the car, though.
