Tuning Part P60 conversion or full conversion

P60 head offers no advantage over the 1108 head. They're the same part.

If you're sticking with SPI then the 'best' is a P60 engine that has a 176.B4.xxx (post May 1997) designation. It has slightly larger inlet valves than those found on the earlier engines and comes with the 866 'P75' cam.

Failing that, bit more faff.. P75 bottom end, Cinq/Sei sporting head (larger inlet valves than P55/P60) and an 866 cam.

1.1 and 1.2 heads as far as im aware are the same apart from the cam, p60 bottom end is diffrent but it depends on knowledge whether a conversion would be easiest. If just installing the p75cam it would certainly need reshimmed.

Basically i want to buy a cinq or a sei and put a p60 engine in and roll cage and have a bit of fun for trackdays. I read not all sportings are the same so i should be carefull on what one i buy

Really, the model will only affect the engine you can put in. But for ease of swap/tuning, a Cinq Sporting or an SPI (early) Sei Sporting.

I don't think all P60s came with the P75 cam, but certainly some did. Probably a Just In Time issue "the P60 cams havn't come in yet, let's use these P75 ones......."

I am working on sort of the same thing, although i am not planning on a rollcage just yet (or tracking it soon, need to get it all sorted first). I am doing a 1108 engine with e 866 cam, 38 mm TB (off a punto i assume, got it from another cinq modder), open airfilter and getting it chipped.

I'd go for either a cinq or a late sei. The cinq will be cheaper, but a late sei can be MPI, which makes for easier swaps to bigger engines, such as the 16v ones.

So a cinq sporting or an early sei sporting, why not the later ones in mpi. What year Sei can i go to, pre facelift 02 model. Cinqs are hard to find over here so the sei would be alot easier to find. Thanks for all the info

With a bit of looking at pictures, you will be able to spot the difference between an spi and mpi sei under the bonnet easily i guess, and dont tell me you'd buy a car without lifting the bonnet ;)

An MPI car is slightly more complex, but if you plan on doing a swap which involves an MPI engine (such as the P75 or any 16V engine), you'd be able to use the existing fuel pump etc.. With an SPI car the fuel injection system is just easier to dismantle etc..

i think the 1.2 8v conversion will do me. the 16v conversion seems a bit much. All im after is something with a bit more poke than standard. I might also do a few bits to the p60 engine also after i add coilovers and a roll cage etc..............

In that case an SPI car is probably easiest, use a p60 bottom end, 866 cam and a bigger TB and keep the existing head, from what i know.

Keep in mind though, the 1.2 is less revvy than the 1.1, since it gets its complete extra .1 from extra stroke length. if you want a high rev screamer, the 1.1 is a bit better from what i know.

Isn't the p60 botton end the same as the newer 1.2 8v mpi engines ??

That's what I have in mine
A 1.2 8v mk2 punto mpi bottom end and a cinq sporting head with 866cam from a p60

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only difference I saw was the mpi engine had different pulleys on the crank water pump and cam

Hard to know what way to go, i know a few with 1.1 standard engines with a cam and chip and they seem well happy and do hill climbs and sprints etc no problem in them

I hear you, from what i've read up here the P60 mainly gives you more low end torque, so better driveability on the street. On the track you are gonna rev the nuts of the engine anyway, so i think that the somewhat revvier 1.1 should be able to keep up with a few mods.

If your engine is OK though, why not handle the handling/brakes first and do a trackday to see how it fares?
