Alright People..

This is probably something simple as to what I have done so I will tell you the story and hope you can be kind enough to give me some advice !!

I brought a chip from the German eBay and my mate said he knew what he was doing today and would solder it for me !! ...He DIDNT remove the original chip, and when we put the ECU back on the car, it wouldnt start despite a number of attempts.

We then removed the chip thinking it was FCUK'D up and put the ECU back on.. the engine will not start & there is a light on my dash, stating ''CODE with a picture of a key ! (KEYCODE.)

My mate has offered me an ECU out of his Cinq that he smashed up, so I could use that.. is this the best idea or is there possible another way around it ??

Thank You.

Crazy !

eh?

A 1997 Cinq is likely to be soldered, how did he install the german chip without removing the old one?

He decided it looked impossible to remove the original chip without damaging the board so soldered the original chip on.. I did mention about removing the original 1 !....

he soldered the old chip on top of the old one?

why.. i'd would say ur ECU, and new chip are both dead.

Get his old ECU, and see if his ECU has a removalable EEPROM. If it does, remove and fit the german chip in there and see if that works. If it doesnt, then the german chip is def dead to.

I honestly cannot see the logic of just soldering the chip on top of the old one, how did you expect it to work?

What about having his ECU and getting him to by you Mckirch's chip (sold on this forum), that disables the immobiliser,so it should work???,(i'm guessing btw)

First of all.... Try starting the car with the RED KEY and see if it starts, if it does then all that's needed is to code the blue ones back in using the following sequence (must be done promptly within 5 seconds of each other)..

  1. Insert RED KEY and turn to MAR
  2. Wait for code light to go* out then remove red key (not sure if it goes out on sequence start)
  3. Insert BLUE KEY and turn to MAR
  4. Wait for code light to go out then remove blue key
  5. If there is another blue key, follow sequence 3 & 4 again
  6. Insert RED KEY and turn to MAR
  7. Wait for code light to go out then remove red key
  8. Sequence complete
Once the blue's are back in, try starting on a blue key.

Second of all, if that doesn't work, your ECU might be knackered. in which case, see my ad in classifieds ;)

you must have the soldered chip in your ecu as previously mentioned, I cannot add to any of the other comments on here other than that you screwed, you will not be able just to swap your ecu with your mates, unless that ecu has bypassed the immobiliser circuit, or you fit a chip which does

the one you brought is most probably now knackered so you will most probably gonne have to fork out for 2nd hand ecu and chip that will bypass immobilser

Bypassing the immobiliser is also gonna effect your insurance premium, but not by much. My imobiliser took about £10 off my premium.

your mates an idiot

Haha! love it...but was exactly my thoughts.... its hard enough to solder DIL Chips anyway...let alone stick one to another!
