Hi

My Seicento's handbrake barely holds the car when it is on a hill and engaged fully. I have been reading the thrends on adjusting the nut for the handbrake but I dont know where it is.

If anyone could tell me where it is, how to access it it would be much appreciated

Regards

Right underneath the car, either support the car on stands at the rear or reverse onto car ramps, sorry can't remember the spanners you'll need though.

Thanks Liam

Hoped that I could do this from the top ie. at the handbrake itself.

Back to the drawing board i guess

What do I look for when i "skillfully park on the kerb"?

Is it a simple nut that needs turning and how do I know when to stop

JK

Erm the cable goes from two (cable from each side) into one right underneath where the handbrake is, you use two spanners, one to hold the retaining nut and the other to tighten the adjuster, you do a few turns at a time until you get the desired effect.

Kinda vague there but it's all described in the Haynes manual, a must for Cinq's.

On the Sei you can get at the nut without having to be under the car. Mines lowered and I can still get to it, you do have to bend the heat shield out the way a bit, as this covers where the nut is. You'll need a 13mm spanner, preferably with a ring end (i found it easier as there is a lack of space in there!)

Ah, I had to buy a whole new cable for mine - V. in-expensive & easy to fit - Mind u i was in a pit... hehehe.. Yea My adjustment was MAX'd so I hope u don't have the same ;) ... Gd luck dude..

As the previous post states, chances are you might need more than just adjustment.

On mine the handbrake levers (the bits that push the brake shoes against the drums) had rusted solid so needed replacing. £15

Due to the above, the handbrake cable had stretched, hence needed replacing. £12

If the shoes had stuck onto the drum, the'll be glazed, as mine were, and need replacing. £8

If you're doing all the above, you may aswell replace the drums while you're at it. £25

if you take care when you're putting it all back together, and use grease in the moving parts (obviously be careful not to contaminate the drums/shoes) then the setup will last you a long time, and is relatively inexpensive. Shouldn't take too long to do either, i think it took me about 4 hours, but i'm very lazy and had many coffee's during that. lol.

If you look in the handbrake sticky in the forum it'll tell you everything you need to know

How did you reach in there? Have you double jointed rubber arms or something (y)
