I have a 99 Sei Sporting, its actually my 2nd Sporting. I just wondering how economical do you find yours. TBH I don't find it economical at all. Petrol is €1.53 a liter here and I'm spending €30 euros a week to do a 126 mile commute.
Its had a full service and I always check tyre pressures, my girlfriend had a 998cc Yaris and that does nearly twice the distance on the same amount of fuel.
Is there something wrong with my Sporting or is it normal, I had my first sporting 12 years ago so I can't remember what it was like on fuel because I was student and only ever put £5 or £10 in to it.

As I said, it's entitrely dependent on how/where you're driving. The last time I went up to Scotland I got 53mpg out of it because it was all motorway/dual carriageway barring maybe the first and last 10-20 miles or so. On my way to/from work, because it's all start stop, under 40mph and a lot of uphill climbs I'm lucky to get more than about 32mpg out of it, but I do also have a 40mm throttle body, induction kit and Supersprint backbox so I'd still expect a standard one to get more. As Apple says, check your fuel filter, and maybe have a look at your plugs for evidence of overfuelling (pictures in Haynes manual help to identify various problems).

I get 40 mph in my 16v and say 20% of the time I drive enthusiastically then the rest are motorway / Town spilt.

Am now doing loads of motorway cause of work, so hopefully i can get in the 45mpg range!

A full service would probably help. I'd expect mid 40s.

Ming will probaboly get into the high 40s, low 50s if the poor old thing is running a decent map and he keeps below 130............

Is way too tempting after 3.5k rev :D. Is just running the ecu that came with the engine (mk1 punto sporting).

I really hope i can get into high 40s! Trying to be really sensible with this tank of petrol!

I get around 300 miles from a full tank until the fuel light comes on. About 35 litres so roughly (300/35 x 4.54 = 39 mpg) this is a daily commute of 70 miles in and around London / m25

My Cinq Sporting did 41.5 on my old commute, which was 2/3 free running and 1/3 traffic. Check to see if your brakes are binding at all - place a hand on the face of each wheel after a trip and see if one side is hotter than the other. One binding rear brake knocked 5 mpg off for me

an engine thats bogged in low rev ranges wont run at peak john nor will it run at its best on short trips that sounds about right for short trips cars peak is at 3500rpm i found so far once hot car burns more fuel when cold :( i get around 300 miles to a full tank

My average economy is in my signature tracked by fuelly.

Best I had was 46.9MPG which was almost all motorway.

Average I get is around 38-39MPG and that is on my route to work, 48 miles mostly dual carriageway however there is a roundabout every couple of miles or so bar a 10 mile clear stretch so it's a lot of slow down from 70 speed up to 70 again.

I changed the fuel filter on Saturday, can't feel or notice any difference yet, but hopefully I will by the end of the week.
