Cinquecento Fuel tank replacement

The tank on my '97 sporting has rusted at the seam and is leaking, so I've bought a new one and now just have to fit it.

I might try this tomorrow, it looks fairly straightforward but not sure how difficult it will be to get the tank around the exhaust.

I will probably put the car in gear, chock the front wheels, and use two jacks on the rear jacking points to get under it, as I don't have any form of ramp.

Does anyone have any adivce for this job? Thanks.

take the exhaust off!!!! makes it a bit easier and soak all the bolts with plusgas/wd40 and let it soak and repeat each day for 2/3 days cause otherwise they will snap as mine did

Don't really want to faff around with the exhaust, I was hoping I could just move the tank around it.

Thanks for the heads up on the bolts though.

Just drop the exhaust. The hard bit is getting the old fuel pump out -- well worthwhile making up something resembling the factory tool.

I tried to get mine around the exhaust and had to drop it in the end.
It would have been a lot less hassle if I'd taken it off to start with!
The front bolts were like new on mine, but the rear two weren't and one did snap. The problem is rust on the exposed tip so get something on that bit if you can

You don't have to remove the exhaust, but it does depend on how good your flexi is. If its recent, you can disconnect the exhaust rubbers and swing the pipe out the way.

Cheers

That is what I did...... shortly after the flexi failed though

It was an old flexi, but it would have probably kept going for considerably longer.
If I was doing it again I'd disconnect it is the manifold flange to start with and get it out of the way.

That is exactly the danger, hence the reference to a 'recent' flexi.

Cheers
