Hi guys,

im wondering how many of us have a little 899cc, i wantto startba read for 899cc engined cinqs. lets see what mods people have done, or pictures of their own cinq! i know some people critize the little 899 engine but i love my little car, i currently concentrating at the moment of getting my car back up to scratch. it is already running so much smoother than when i first bought the little beast. i have done a full service and i have a new fuel filter to put on. i have fitted a new fuel pump and alternator with new fan belt. I have put sporting alloys on it and new tires. Buying a ARB and sporting shocks off a cinq sporting, looking to put some lowering springs on them. I am going to get a new backbox fitted but am not sure of which one to get?

well they are some of my plans, what are yours? or what have you already done? :)

Hi,

I've got an 899 'S' Cinquecento. Its a white one with Sporting alloys now fitted and I think its my third favourite car ever (after my old 127 sport and my Y10).

It has to park on the street in Leeds at least twice a week and is always getting scratches on the bumpers. Other cars with nice colour matched bumpers are always getting them bashed so I am happier with the plastic/black ones.

The 899 seems fine on my short motorway runs and about town and the car has had fewer issues than our 2002 Renault Kangoo.

i have a cinq 899cc SX as my first car. i was going for a fiat panda classic as my first (i love the old pandas.. i want the 4x4 one) but because they are getting hard to come by i went for a cinq. only resion why was it is a group 1 insurance car lol
i told my mum and dad that if they saw a fiat cinq to tell me about it and i'd go maybe buy it. we went out to look at one heh and its the one i have now thanks to my dad.

i have not really done any mods to mine mostly replaced worn out parts like the seats CV boots fitted a alarm/immobiliser. have a look >>Here<< to read the story and see pictures of it

oh and lighting.. lol got a youtube video of it somewhere too..

i also see you are from derby.. west side here mate

Yeah, I love my little 899cc engine! Not the fastest but ohwell :) I've looked after it and the little buggar is so much quieter than when I first had it, she starved her of oil, some nice Redex oil treatment did the job and fresh oil! Running her on 10w40 semi synthetic, seems to be alright :) only problems I have had with mine was the fuel pump and alternator, now she purring! My back box is knackered so I'm fitting a new one soon!

It's so reliable, took me all the way to st Ives in Cornwall on one tank and didn't skip a beat all the way down! Trying to get the noise down even still as I have read putting a panda rocker on the cinq will decrease tappet noise!

Any ideas of what mods I can do to her to get her running like new and increase abit of performance, a full service has increased my cubs performance rapidly as it struggled to get to 70 before now it sails past and keeps on going..... to 90 lol but I don't thrash her I love the little hum it makes when cruising! Haha

well i guess theres the usual mods, exhaust, air filter/induction kit.
i dont know bout an ecu remap i am not really that in on that.
in all fairness this engine was never going to win any race as its just not ment to be powerfull. a bigger engine is the only real way i could see the car being made to go faster sadly.
i must admit that i would rather have a nice diesel engine over my 899 but i just cant afford diesel engine prices+insurance. i try to drive mine as eco as i can. i did expect the engine to do more MPGs but all well. at least i am on the road.

899cc black L reg (Base) mines not even an S ;-)

has the following

2ndry Headlamps, green side lights, blue and black and silver splash custom bumper, cold air inlet, green bonnet, 2 extra snail horns, so 3 electrical horns, hand made induction kit, sticker bombed passenger wing, hazard tape wing mirrors, hazard tape "coach stripes", hand painted checker roof, lots of stickers on the rear 3 windows, extra brake lamp on the roof, 2 air horns on the roof (working) Sportex 3inch ingle middle exit, 2 extra rear possition lights and a sharkfin areial every wheel is a diff colour. thats the outside

inside we have

a Sony Xplod BT3800 head unit, 2x 10mm edge speakers, leather look seat covers (all round), centre console, sporting clocks, house light switch to turn on the front head lamps (2ndry), air horn and snail horn isolation rocker switch, a 3 pin house AC socket with a 12v splitter (1 fag 3 12v AUX and batt monitor) on a house plug to go into for said plug, the compressor is behind the centre console for the air horns, a skellington and 2 sets of furry die hanging from the rear view mirror door handles and door cards are sprayed also in blue and silver.

as we make our way to the back of the car... a map on the roof of skandinavior, yoda chilling on a back seat with a belt on, pirate flag on the parcel shelf, (like dragon) under there are 2x 6x9 pioneer speakers, also a fire extinguisher is in the middle of the car between the handbrake and the back seats, ther is a toilet pull cord switch on the roof centre strut that turns on the 2 green LED strips, in the boot we have a 1200w amp with 2x12" subs (Pioneer) and an air compressor which runs on 12v for flats...

Plans:

1.2 8v conversion,40mm front and rear lower, 14inch steelies, ARB, chip, decat, stainless manifold, janspeed or other exhaust system. 866 cam mod, chip the new ECU with gazman, disconnect door handles and locks using an alarm and remote opening and locking and starting... (like gazzman)

this car is my daily also ;-) does 55-60mpg at the mo which aint bad going!!

ahh yes forgot about the pirate flag and my radio. (thanks for reminding me slugworth)

i have a pirate flag stapled to my parcel shelf that is hiding some old 6.5 inch kenwood speakers (not 6x9s) the head unit is now a aldi car radio.. Tevion something or other. my old JVC head unit would not take a USB pen drive over 4 gigs so i am afrade that just would not do. (i use a 160gig hard drive now.. never hear the same song twice!) i have a "sub" in the boot but i never really use it much.. i have no one to show off too and as for trying to pick up a girl.. i dont have a chance.. the cars bright pink... lol

more importantly i have a 2nd 100Ah battery in the boot to run my radio gear from. oh yes i am a radio ham so i sometimes go out places high up to see where i can get to on the radio... also comes in handy as my front battery in my car is totaly gone. it has enough power to unlock the doors but wont start the car. (100Ah spins the engine around fast though >_<)

what else.... hmm some red foot well lighting and UV lighting as seen in the video, a home made/built charge controler for charging the battery up in the boot, sporting clocks with differnt colour backlit LED "bulbs", i modded a clock from out of a Vauxhall Corsa B and stuck some differnt backlights in it and sectioned them off so now it is green blue red.. and when i go out with the radio i have 2x 9ft aerials on the back of the car mounted on the boot lip about 3-4 inches higher than the back lights.

thinking about wireing up my remote start function but i am not sure if i want to, i have been told it can make your insurance price go up.
and i am a cheepo besto driver. so the less stuff costs the better!

I want to do the conversion to 1.2 but I'm happy with the 899cc at the moment, I plan on lowering 40mm with an ARB So it shouldn't handle round corners at a boat anymore. I want to put sporting dials in with a rev counter, is it hard? And also what back boxes will fit the 899cc?

Is it loud, because I don't want one that drounds out all the noise! Just want a lovely hum! Haha yeah I probably would have it off you if I haven't got a new one by then!

I have a 1994 899cc Cinq SX in light green, never seen another one in this colour.

Fitted a sporting interior (F+R seats and door cards) as standard was very tired. Also has a nice head unit and replaced the standard speakers with decent ones, also has speakers in the rear plastic panels.

Have replaced the following in one year (previous owner lacked any mechanical sympathy ) :
Clutch
Gearbag
CV Joints
All driveshaft CV boots
Fuel Tank
Exhaust
Headgasket

Still need to replace the front disc's when I get a moment, also the water pump is a little tired ...

Recently fitted a custom made induction kit which really helped add some more torque and a little more peak power, gives a nice growl when you gas it as well :)

I think the 899cc's have a good amount of power and pull the little cinq around with a decent amount of speed now problem.

Have done + 10k miles in under a year, many long +2 hour trip on the motorway and no real hiccups.

Long life the 899 !!!

I want to replace and upgrade my brakes on the little beast once I have sorted the suspension and ARB! :) I've replaced the speakers and put some 6x9s in the parcel shelf! Lol im wondering if to fit a induction kit on or a bigger TB ?? Give her a bit more response!

Induction kit made a noticable difference in increasing power. There is a thread regarding a larger TB, I think unless you mod the inlet manifold and work on the inlet ports you won't gain any extra omph.

I know I read the thread and he said he felt a better response, it's worth a try see what happens haha yeah I think a induction kit will be going on lol wondering which one?

Hi

I have a 899 cinq in ischa blue, never seen another cinq with the same colour. Had mine for a year now and done quite a few small but worthwhile mods.
With regards to gaining performance, there really isnt to many bolt on options for the 899.
I have a K & N air filter, i have noticed a little better power at the top end but nothing too much. The main difference is the sound it makes, much more sporty hum but not too loud!
The second mod which is still ongoing is a 32mm throttle body. I have a thread going if you want to see more. This is a tb from the punto 60. It will bolt straight on as a replacement, however the spacer will need to be lathed to the correct size. This has defineatly added alot of power to the engine. I have lost a little torque lower down but at 3000rpm its like a turbo kicking in! Overtake uphill no problem now :)
If you need any advice im happy to help :)

Chris

Yeah thanks, my ARB should be here soonish and I've got some shocks off a sporting! I think I'm going to lower 40mm on them but what springs would you recomend? I'm considering a TB off a punto now lol
