Hello everyone

Ive just turned 17 and passed my test and have found a R reg seicento sporting for £375, But i cant seem to find insurance cheap enough (the lowest ive found just from comparison websites is£ 4,000 ish ). Anything under £2000 would be acceptable i guess but thats still quite high. Does anyone know any cheap insurance companys which would be a decent price

Thanks in advance.

Try the supermarket insurers like Tesco? Iv always used them and they have always been the cheapest for me. If you cant get the price down go for a Seicento SX (also 1108cc) These are a lower insurance groups (although all Centos are pretty low insurance groups)

Go for third party, I have also put my Voluntary Excess up in the past to reduce the price - just do not crash :)

Some insurers also do limited mielage policies - as you wont be doing too many miles i expect, you could say 5000 miles a year? Possibly this might reduce the price, but im not sure which companies do it.

Cheers mate, ill look into the supermarkets thing, the only reason i asked about the sporting if because i could pick it up really easy as its about less than a mile from my house. :D has anyone here looked into a blackbox system or are they the devils work? ive heard plenty of horror stories about them.

Edit: Ive just tryed Quins and got a quote of 6 grand online :(

one of my cheapest policies came from Elephant.
If you really want to bring it down, get the car named to your dad or mum
and go to Admiral as and make them the policy holder. Get yourself as a named driver as they acquire Admiral only no claims discount and that may help you. But my insurance turned out at £2700 cheapest but im just going to have to work for it.

And that would be called 'fronting' and is illegal, so don't do that.

A payd system might be useful for you,

I was one of the first to get a norwich union payd system fitted in the sei back in 05 or 06 and it certainly helped reduce my premium for a couple of years until it hit the point that a straight quote was cheaper so do consider it.

It was something like a couple of pence per mile in the daytime then from 11pm to i think 5am it was £1 pound per mile.

The only thing is it can niggle you if you get close to the witching hour hehe whereas a normal quote you aleast know your car is there and can be used anytime.

I still have the blackbox so i'll stick a pic of it up(y)

Here ya go ;-)

I looked into the Norwich union black box thingy but they discontinued the service two years after they launched it so that's a no go :( and i wasn't really any better off using the Ikube either. I guess i'm going have to try find a non sporting model. which is a shame because 375 is a bargain for it.

thanks.

HI daanbread if you could pm me the reg,and your postcode i can check about for you too! (y)

I really get annoyed by how much this costs. And im still not sure about the blackboxes because ive heard that people have had claims turned down because of apparently "unsafe" driving before an accident which could easily work against you. But this may just be rumour so dont hold me to that. You guys rule though, probaly the most useful and freindly forum ive used so cheers for that.. :worship:

i must admit ive found elephant to be not only the cheapest but most helpful too - i got a quote on a sporting with LV for £3000+ with elephant £1200 lol i know plenty of young drivers who are with them and also say either elephant or admiral.

Still got a quote of 6000ish from elephant, with my dad as a named driver :( i think im just going to give up for now and find a cheaper car to insure. :(

Youve got no hope Of getting anything cheap if your spending 300-400 quid on a car

If you are spending a few grand then you will get a lot cheaper qoute

I am aware of that but with policies from Admiral and Elephant you can be a named driver whilst being listed as the main driver of the vehicle. It would thus be recognised by your insurance company and should be listed under your certificate of motor vehicle insurance. I don't know the price of this though as you cannot be the legal owner of the car being insured as the named, main driver.

Hmm, really? i cant see the sense in that but you know a lot more than me :) i just wish i had a few grand to spend on a car. I cant think of anything im not telling you, the only thing is that the car will be parked on a road at night time, but ive got quotes saying it was parked on a drive and it was only slightly cheaper. Maybe its just my location? Is stoke on trent a rough place? ;)

Cheers
