I am not to mechanically minded so just wanted this answering....

A number of different people now have recommended me to stick a 60 Throttle Body on my Cinq Sporting (not a 1242!!), I am first of all assuming this is from a Punto.. if it is, is it off a specific Punto engine ???

> Are these compatible with a sporting engine ??

> IF YES, how easy is it to take off the original & replace it ??

> How much would you get one for from a scrap yard ??

Thank You.

Crazy!

They are from a fiat punto 60 engine, and are compatible :) I would like to know the other answers aswell.

The 60 TB, is 32mm in diameter, 2mm wider than the cinq and a noticible difference in the area that it has.

A member on here named 'Tricker' can make your cinq or the punto TB to a 40mm one, which gives a hell of alot more area! This will cost about £100 including postage.

to replace the TB (i did the bottom bit only, so no playing with depressurising the fuel system!)

Remove the induction and you'll see two allan headed bolts - they're 5mm i think. Remove them and you'll also see two black plastic clips, unclip them and pull the top of the TB away. Don't disconnect the pipes, just leave it as it is. Then start removing the other tubes from the bottom half. They are mostly vacuum lines. Remember where they go!

The expansion tank connects to the front, and at the back there is another water line. Thats about all the leaky things you'll have to deal with.

Refitting is the reversal of removal ;)

Hi, here are some answers

1. You must take one from a punto 60. These have a small "60" written on the front wing. Punto 55 no good as it is the same as the cinq one, and 75 no good as this uses a different injection system.

2. They are compatible with the cinq engine, the ECU adapts to the new tb on its own. Only thing is there is a vacuum hose that goes to the airbox and the nozzle for this hose didnt exist on the punto tb, but i have just modified mine so it takes in cold air all the time anyway, so i dont think it really matters.

3. I put one on my car, it is a simple job. Once you have removed the air box, its really a case of unplugging all the pipes from the throttle body (careful of the one with a red mark on as petrol comes out). Then undo two allan key bolts and remove the throttle body and the spacer it sits on from the manifold. Then, put on the new one, along with the punto spacer (this should be black, the old one was an orangy colour on mine), do up the allan keys and re connect all the hoses. Voila!

4. I got mine from a scrapyard with a load of other parts for £20, so tb was maybe £5 - £10?

Penny for horsepower its worthwhile but don't expect a huge difference.

Ignore my post on fitting, Arc suggests a much more sensible way to do it without disconnecting as much stuff!

don't forget to buy new jubilee clips before removing any of the pipes though! the Fiat ones don't go back on without using a special tool.

Be prepared to pay upto £45 for the tb. That's how much both the ones I bought cost

On the subject of TB's... the "Punto 60" TB that I bought off ebay turned out to have the exact same bore size as my 55's original one. 30mm. Hmm... :bang:

Oh, and it didn't cure my overfuelling prob either (which I thought was down to the throttle pot on the old TB). So all in all, thats 30 quid down the khazi and half an hour wasted replacing one working 55 TB with another.

So back to square bloody one now. Any ideas what it could be? It's not any of the TB sensors, its not the lambda, beginning to suspect that my ECU is buggered, which would mean plenty of expense.

On the upside, it does leave me with a spare 55 TB... come the end of the month, and payday, it might just be making a little trip to Denmark ;) :D

I received the following by email from NSMG, thought it would be more use to post the answers up here, also others may have different views.

Dear Sir,

I'm thinking of getting a 40 mm TB by Tricker of Denmark , however if I get a 2nd hand punto 55 or 60 TB , there is no nozzle for the vacuum hose that goes to the airbox. How can I get around this problem ?

I would also like to hear your overall impressions about the Tricker TB in terms of drivability , fuel consumption and noise.

Do you think that a classic K&N panel filter can cope with the larger TB ?

Best Regards.

Response

1) You only need the extra vacuum line if you keep the standard airbox. If you are using a K&N or GSI type its better to not have the extra vacuum hole as you only have to blank it off. If you want to use the standard airbox get a throttle body from a standard cento sporting and have that modified by tricker... (but seems a bit of a waste to keep with the standard box... see comments on using a panel filter)

2) Drivability, much better, more torque, more power, no real downside.

3) Fuel Consumption, on a week of mixed driving, 40% motorway (fast) and 60% cross country (hard acceleration and braking), about 10%-12% higher consumption 35mpg down to 31mpg. But as I get used to more power I think this will be less of a reduction as I am realising that there is less need to change down.

4) Noise, slightly louder induction roar when accelerating, but not any louder when cruising.

5) Panel filter, I expect that a panel filter will be OK but as I keep saying cold air is at least as important as lots of air. With a panel filter you need to remove the hot air mixing system and I would suggest that you use the hot air pipe (or preferably a bigger one) to feed cold air direct into the airbox. If you do this then you don't need the extra vacuum feed.

Hope this helps, others may have more tips or different views

Michael
