Hi all,

I'm advised that the Sei had different gearboxes, the lower engines having one and the sportings having another?

I'm advised that my daughter's 'S' ,(a 2001 car) has a derivative of the 899cc gearbox, is this true? It has a square peg drive speedo sensor, whereas the sporting gearboxes have a different drive.

Does this sound correct so far??

Anyway, wondered, if the gearboxes are different, are the ratios different also??

Cheers all.

Jon

There are two gearbox types fitted to the S and SX. One is a derivative of the 899 box and can be identified because the inner driveshaft seal actually mounts to the differential body. This is known as the "wet" shaft box as the tripod joint is lubricated by gearbox oil. The other, dry shaft box is identical to the Sporting -- there's what appears to be a metal cylinder between the inner CV joint and the differential.

Easy way to tell is that the wet shaft boxes have no reverse detente, while Sporting type boxes do (you have to pull up or down on the knob).

Ratios are different, but not overly so -- the wet box has a slightly higher overall gearing.

No idea about the speedo sender. Look in ePER?
