Hi All,

Running a standard 998c Seicento, and a month or so a go the handbrake cable was replaced.

All was well up until recently where extended periods of driving often leaves the car with a soft/to the floor brake pedal, which is cured with a period of inactivity.

So I remember reading on this forum (upon which i base most of my seicento automative knowledge on now  ) about touching the rim to see if one were warmer than the other, turns out the rear passenger side rim is scalding hot after pulling over when the peddle goes to the floor. The rest are fine.

Admittedly, I'm not the most clued up on these issues, but the garage qouted me as follows to fix the issue:

Rear shoes £15.67
Brake drums £66.00 (£33 each)
Wheel cylinder 8.00
Back plate 32.33 – this is corroded
Retaining clips 13.17
Hand brake cable £15.11

Labour £90.00

Total £240.28

VAT £48.05

Total £288.33

Apart from the handbrake cable only just being replaced, is this about right? and at all nesceessary to fix the problem.

Either way I intend to enlist the more mechanically minded of my friends to attempt to tackle the issue first, is there any common faults, or things i should be looking out for with a problem like this?

Cheers

Sounds expensive for parts. Check the usual sources to ensure value.

You'll also need brake pipes made up, there is no way they are coming off in one piece.

Also make sure the front bleed nipples have been plus gassed for a week before hand, you are going to have to replace all the brake fluid too.

Cheers
