The problem you will have when fitting pre-fabricated replacement pipes is the steering rack amongst other thing is in the way. Kunifer bends easy'ish so can be fed down behind the rack but is still a pain to do as the fuel pipes are there.

You have to remove the header tank and intake manifold for access.

OUCH! I have ABS on the sei, its only on 40k miles though so touch wood i won't ever have to touch them.. I know from experience even the hub nuts are significantly more expensive

Wheel Bearings can fail at any time, when my rear n/s started humming and my was under 20,000 miles at the time so i had it replaced which i think was £ 110 for the bearing at the time that lasted about 6 months and was humming again so the garage replaced it for free and so far about 18 months on it still ok also i think it's a rip of that they cost around £120 nowadays where as non abs is a fraction of that price, why do you need abs on such a small lightweight car anyway!!

you don't it is completely silly. my sei has just about every option you can get from factory though and a cool history so i don't want to take it off ;) I even have the factory remote central locking, which i have never seen before on anyones seicento. I didn't even realise it was a standard option at first lol.

Is that the META system?

I had that

Thanks for the help everyone ABS all out and new master cylinder in (only £20 with compensators from the scrappers bargain I thought). After weeks of agro its going to the MOT station tomorrow. Cross everything for me!

Hi guy sorry not been back on (you may have noticed I had a problem with petrol leaking which is all fixed) the car is now back on the road except..... my 1) handbrake light is staying on all the time checked the fluid and its full, any ideas.

2) I set the airbag light off how do I reset it (I bought a cheapo code reader but it doesn't seem to cover airbag or abs!) could I use the cable from this for my laptop to use the fiat software thingy?

Sorry if I should of posted a new thread.

Switch under the handbrake lever is not stuck on any other ideas. Could we have wired something back wrong?

i have been readin this thread with shock nd horror as i hav a shumi thats just dun 50k, if i ever have 2do rear bearings i will be lookin 2c how the bearings r fitted, lets face it fiat got them in there! on the edge of the bearing there will be a number so google is the 1st stop then ring the local bearing company (2 in derby) if thats not possible i will be lookin 2c how the relucutor ring is fitted on the hub, these r usually made seperate nd sweated on the hub (just like flywheel ring gears) so out with the hot spanner nd CAREFULL tap, re-heat nd spin on the new hub, i not dun this on my car yet but thats how i got round these sort of probs wen i was swingin spanners 4a livin

You can reset this using FiatECUScan, an ELM327 interface and the 'Red' adaptor cable from Gendan Auto. It plugs into the OBDII socket like the 'standard' cable, but the 'standard' cable has the wrong pin-outs.
I had the airbag light come on because of a voltage spike and FIatECUScan reset it no problem. Top tip from the garage... Set the latency to 1ms on setup otherwise you'll probably find you won't get communication with the airbag ECU.(y)

The speedo pods on Seicento's with ABS are a special as they have an input for the warning light. It is a surface mount LED that will stay on without a constant OK signal applied from the ABS ECU.

You have to take the pod apart and desolder the led. Or install a non ABS pod.

The first thing the examiner looks for is warning lights at ignition on. Then looks for lamps out at engine start up. Simples.

Go to another MOT station and say nothing about what has been done.

My examiner did not Know I had removed the ABS untill I told him. He said " You never told me that" wink, wink. Even though, I could argue that the car is piped up the same as a non ABS version and as long as it passed the roller test is fit for the road.

I have a 16v Bravo disc setup on the front and Punto GT discs on the rear. On the brake test the rear ones failed because the compensators have a problem with the setup. The examiner now won't use the rollers on mine and uses equipment to measure all 4 together. (Classed as custom setup). The reading gives 3 times the stopping power required to pass for my car.
Good evening cc1,

So if I understand you correctly, the non ABS models have got a different type of instrument panel? I've compared two instrument panels listed in the Fiat Seicento Service and Repair Manual (the first one's date is until 07/98 and the second one goes from 07/98) and they are different in terms of layout and the fact that the later one has got an extra connector for the electric tachometer, but for the rest connectors A, B and C are wired the exact same way (I got all of this from the manual). Do you perhaps also know how they've put that extra ABS light in the newer one? I'm quite a bit confused since they kept the connectors exactly the same.😵‍💫

Eh...ABS is to allow you to steer while braking.

The one thing it doesn't do is stop a car quicker.

On current systems you can deactivate it with a blip of throttle.

Dunno about the cento set up.

Cheers

ABS is a system meant to improve the traction the car has. ABS stands for Anti Brakelocking System (or something equal to). When you have to make an emergency stop and your wheels lock up, ABS kicks in and releases the brakes with pulses so your tires can find their grip again, that’s why a car with ABS “shocks” in an emergency stop. It improves your tires’ traction with big amounts and so stops your car faster when circumstances ask for it.

That’s why I’d like to build ABS onto my car.

Kind regards!

This thread is 11 YEARS old: 2011

Very few of those posting then are still posting on the forum :)
Yeah, I know, sorry for posting, but I was taught on other forums to first look if there’s an existing thread about a specific subject before I’d open a new one to keep the forum nice and tidy. Shall I open a new one then?
