Hi

Iv got a 2002 MPI seicento SX that overheated after being stood for about 40 mins.

Iv refilled and bled the system.

The fan doesnt kick in- iv put a live to the fan and its nicely spinning away.
Fuse is fine too.

Am I right in thinking that the MPI fans are controlled by the ECU? I have the mini ECU in this car.

Thanks!

they are indeed.

Near the ECU look for the relay with large gery/black and violet wires, and thin green and orange/black wires.

Short the green wire to the block or a good earth and see if it kicks in. if not, remove the relay and bridge the large grey/black and violet wires with a thick piece of wire. If it still doesn't work, jumper the thick wire from the grey black relay connectoe (stil with relay remove) direct to 12V.

If that still doesn't work you are lookin at a fan faliure, or an earthing fault.

Use a multi-meter and set to continuity. Unplug connector to fan. Touch probes to fan side of connector. The meter should bleep. Then slowly turn the fan blades to get intermittent bleeps. If no bleeps then brushes probably siezed due to corrosion or melting of casing.

Would I have to do this as iv already but a live to it and works fine- Cheers

Thanks for the above!

The green wire is now "hanging" loose- is this ok?

when the Grey/black and violet wire touched the fan kicked in!
But no longer the case-

When a a jump lead from +ve to black /grey wire fan kicks in.

How do I this properly? Will it mean that the fan is always on then?

What would I do next?

Thanks for your help.

With respect to the O/P, if he didn't know, jumper, bridge, etc, then the schematics won't help.

If I've got it all wrong though, look in the engine command pdf, page 26, or if you have the actual manual, E5020, revision 2000...it's the air con diagrams >2000 you want to look at.

If you shorted the grey black and violet, you've basically connected the fan directly to the batter and earth via the B5 30A Mega fuse. If that's not working now, the fuse popped.

The green wire is hangning? Was that always the case? No need for it to be hanging, I simply meant to short (run a wire from that pin on the relay, to an earth) the wire. That should have made the fan fire up if it was an ECU issue.

Kristian- Thanks.

I, like an idiot, pulled the green wire out (as I did with the others)

I now have the wires out and the red block out and the relay out!

It quite a bit more than I think I can deal with!

Is it a case of getting a new relay and connecter and attaching it or am I lookin at much more than that in terms of electronics?

Iv checked the 30A fuse- and yes its popped.

Cheers

So as it stands:

Three wires disconnected from the relay...

When I touch 2 of them together the fan kicks in but doesnt go off.

Plus where is the download section so I can look at wiring diagrams ( if i understand them lol)

Can anyone help?
Cheers
