Hi,
Basically im dying to get myself a cinq now. But on a tight budget, what kind of price am i looking to pay for a decent(ish) cinq sporting? Colour isnt too much of an issue although i'd prefer a black one.

Secondly, i dont really care much for the engine state as before i put it on the road i want to do the 1242 engine conversion. So how easily available are these engines?

Basically, is it worth getting a high milage cheap, doing the conversion and replacing the common ware and tear parts all while its off the road, or get a low milage one (pay more).

Ah, and lastly... If i do the engine conversion, how much will the insurance companies laugh and put up the premium by silly money?

First of all, get a good con black one on the exterior. They look soooo much nicer clean. lmao :D

And if your going to 1242 it yeah engine doesnt matter too much, but if you do get a decent one you can always sell it. Problem with getting a crap engine is that other problems will probably follow such as clutch.... which can build up to be very costly. Like £300. So ur better off searching round for a decent one and traveling that extra bit further to look at them. Expect to pay around £1000 for a half decent one from the adtrader... (y)

P.S. Good decision. (y)

Oh yeah, when you 1242 it most people dont bother declaring it as not many people will be able to spot it, especially if you grind the plates off. Not that im recommending it at all. Insurance wise if you do, it all depends how old you are, who ur with....NCB... Try phoning round first, but dont give your correct details in case they store that your thinking bout it as they are more likely to check if you were to have an accident.

Hope this helps. Dan. (y)

Thanks :)

Yea thats what i was thinking, but might aswell replace the clutch while i got the engine out :D Also may aswell recon the 1242 engine while its out, new bearings, seals, gaskets, poss piston rings or complete pistons. That way if its all done before it goes in and runs, it shall last longer so shouldnt need fixing again 'till i get the turbo going on (few years to wait tho).

Trouble is, id be looking at a grand for the car and the 1242 engine. Damn being a student on a low income :bang: So with a grand, what am i likely to get? Part prices aint a problem cos i'll get them bits at a time and run it as a 1108 till ive done the recon

Well i managed to haggle mine right down to £900 when i got it. Mechanically it is perfect, there are a few parking dents...but nothing major. It all depends how good your haggling skills are and the luck on the day really. If you set a maximum and stick to it, one is bound to turn up. Also if you buy one off this site you can check all the persons posts to dee what problems its had. lmao :p (y)

LOL, good idea (y) Now just gotta convince my gran my unos a death trap and need to borrow a grand to get a new car  :D

I wish my gran lived round here so i could make a it more easy cash. lol. Instead i have to write sob stories just after christmas... to say im saving for a new... and its gonna cost this much, ;) ;) . lmfao.

It shouldnt be too hard proving an old uno to be a death trap. lol. No offense intended. :p :D

The car used to be hers so she forewell knows!! :D But yea i agree it wont be too hard now. I think the poor things around the end of its life, rust setting in and engine problems, so needs replacing soon(ish).

Give it a few helping hands. Pour some lemon juice all over the bonnet, roof... 2nite and it should be nicely bubbled in 24 hours. lol. Tell her its spreading and isnt really road worthy. If you get pulled by a policeman you could get points for driving it like that. Older people havent got a clue bout the laws now. lol. Wear all the tyres right down so they are on the min, another excuse for getting a new car. lol. If it has a choke ( no idea) Push that slightly in so it takes a bit longer to start each time...... And the list goes on. You can see im a pro when it comes to ripping off the elderly. We use to stand outside post offices and wait for them to collect there pensions. lol :p
Anyway, gonna go coz gonna get a drilling in the morning about how crap and unacceptable my coursework was. lol. :D (y)

GO IMOLA BLUE !!!

...I paid £525 for mine with 5 months tax & M.O.T.

Modified, slightly with 40,000 but with ''recorded clock change'' reads 112,000. Had a few problems but have had them fixed & not even spent as much as what I should have !!

(The joys of having a friend with a wrote off Cinq,lol.. :p )

Don't try to defraud the insurance companies.

Ground off engine numbers are highly suspicious too.
