So here's my problem,
i just bought myself a little fiat cinquecento sporting for 250 pounds off gumtree, taxed and mot'd for a few months, what bargain i thought, untill i drove it home.
after 20 miles on the motorway taking it easy, she overheated and died on me due to a hole in the rad, luckly i had someone following me on hand just incase this happened.
so i towed it home, and upon closer inspection i found that the head gasket had gone, and the head was more than likely warped.
as im really keen to get her back on the road, after just paying 300 pound deposit on my insurance, i quickly set about removing the engine and gear box before it got dark, as i have a spare punto 1242 8v engine from an automatic i broke last year.
what im after is someone tell me if i will be able to bolt the flywheel, clutch and gearbox off the toasted 1.1 engine straight onto the 1242 punto engine, as they are both fire engines, and bolt the lot back in to the existing loom and ecu in the cinq?
they're both 8v fire engines and look near on the same, so should think everything will bolt straight on????
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

that simple?
sounds great! she should be back on the road by tomorrow evening then!
what's the power difference like from changing the engine to a 1242 and leaving it completely standard? i dont want to bother with induction kits ect as want to keep goog mpg, and the little 1.1 felt nippy enough for the 20 miles or so she lasted!
thanks

you'll have to have an induction kit. the air filter box wont clear the bonnet otherwise. (in theroy if diddling about an induction kit will increase MPG) but standard your looking at either 60bhp from an SPI punto or 75bph from a MPI punto.

Just few wee words of caution.

If the 1242 is SPi, its a straight swap, ref the guides.

If the 1242 is MPi there will be issues.

If you fit the 1242 prepare to be raped for insurance.

If the 1242 is SPi the head is a straight swap for the 1108 so consider that.

ok, ive been offered an identical cinq thats had a rear end shunt for 100 pound, with a good engine and box in it, better alloys, front bumper and bonnet than mine, so i think im gunna use that as a donor instead, will post some pics of her being rebuilt tomorrow hopefully, but doubt its all gunna go easy with the way my lucks been lately

theres no way im declaring the engine change if i do go ahead with it, ive already had to pay 1600 with my mum as the policy holder with 4 years no claims and me as a named driver, and im not paying the theiving b@stards anymore!

lol i wont have to worry about insurance anyways hopefully if i can get hold of this other cinq.
also another quick question, the gearbox ive got feels like fifth gear has been blanked off or something, cant select it at all, its not even attempting to go in and grinding like mad like usual when the gears gone, thought it could have been the selector that needed adjusting on the gear box, but it seems that they are not adjustable??
thanks

Check that the outer cable is attached properly to the bracket above the bellhousing and that the bracket itself is properly attached at both ends.

Don't even joke about not declaring mods to your in insurers!!

To the insurance thing. I refuse to help if your gonna go undeclared on an engine change.too many on the road that are gonna make my insurance silly high. I hope you understand that. Otherwise from that if your going donor car don't worry so much about your box for the time being. Until after the change

bit late to be checking that out now, the engine and box is already out and in the shed! should have the donor car back to the yard by 1pm so do ya reckon me and my mate, both fairly experienced mechanics, or so we like to think..., will have the engine and box out of 1 and into the other, and have it running before dark? it stayed light where i am till about 7-8pm ish today so 6 or so hours should be just enough time tomorrow i hope
thanks

today went well, couldn't get the damaged donor car so decided to go ahead with the 1242 engine change first thing this morning, by 10am i had all of the alternator, inlet manifold , flywheel, clutch, gearbox and engine mounts taken off the 1108 block and onto the 1242 block so it was ready to go back in. after a few hours the engine was bolted in, and by 5 o'clock everything was wired up and tightened up, by which time it was too late to go up the local breakers and get the parts i have found today that need replacing, which are: radiator (the source of all the problems in the first place), sump (started leaking after a few taps with a screwdriver) exhaust flexi (split), n/s diff o ring i damaged getting the drive shaft out and an exhaust manifold.

i have noticed that the exhaust isn't going to fit down under the sump as the sump sits lower on the 1242, and was wondering what the best way would be to extend the exhaust to allow for the larger sump?
i was planning on cutting the flange off a cinq exhaust where it bolts to the manifold and sandwiching it between the where the exhaust meets the manifold, which would give it another 20mm or so which im hoping would be enough to clear the sump??

any help would be greatly appreciated

I take it the guides and FAQS sections have passed you by.
