Hi folks,

What grade all do you pour into your T FIRE 8V engines? I am currently using Castrol 10w60, and I would not be asking this question at all, if not for one annoying clanking noise when idling on warmed up engine. Checked all I could (ideas are still welcome, but oil pressure is right, valve clearances too), and I am now slowly concluding this oil might not be that good of an idea.

Do you use the car every day if so thats v thick oil to use i run 10w60 in my 20vt but i only use it at the weekends and its pretty tuned.

Yes, everyday use, no racing/track days, but any time I get a chance I like to kick the s..t out of it.

10w 60 does seem a wrong choice

Is that recommended for this engine? what is recommendation for the 1242 engines? Maybe try that

I use 10w40 semi synthetic... thats what the engine is made for as standard as far as i know.

the clanking noise might be the thrust bearing surface on the cam carrier. they seem pretty loose even as new. the came moves in and out slightly causing a tapping sound. annoying but harmless.
one of my heads is really noisy and i found out where it was from because of that head.
I "mared" the thrust surface (the cam carrier that the coil pack bolts to)and it made it a lot quieter... for a while.

hard to say... try pushing and pulling the cam pulley in and out... i could feel/see lots of movement on the head i mentioned.

if you can it might be worth seeing if you can remove some of the play... what i was going to do was make a washer/shim from a coke/drinks can

you sure the sound is not your injectors?

I will have (yet one more) look at the cam, thanks ;) Re injectors, 99% sure not, I can hear them separately. Besides, the behavior of this thing indicates it's lubrication related. For example, after a proper hard drive you stop to idle and it is silent for a long while (sometimes up to a minute), then it starts to kick in slowly to finally get persistent and loud. And only when the engine is warm.

That's what you talk about? I guess for starters I can rebolt them to make sure they are torqued properly...
