I've been considering buying a cinqucento sporting and changing the engine to a 1242cc and then turbocharging it to keep me busy.

I've been reading how others have done the turbo conversion using Aquamist MF2 to control an extra injector.

I'd like to know if anyone has any information/experience on a homemade extra injector controller as I'm not too interested in the MF2's £270 price tag.

Sorry if that sounds scabby, but if I can make my own injector controller then I'd be happier!

the MF2 was used with the VAD conversions
nothing making you use it
theres a thread linked in the turbo FAQ on megasquirt as an option
 
I think im the only one to have a running turbo with megasquirt... Id recommend it but be sure to do it right... dont skimp on the little things (like connectors)
if you pay attention on wire rouiting/connector quality it is at reliable as oe (if not more)

imho using a piggy back system is a bit of a bodge (but fitting a turbo onto a non turbo engine is also a bodge) at least with standalone you have full control over everything.
aquamist only lets you add extra fuel on top of what the original ecu puts out and wont let you control timing.

Im also not keen on spi on a turbo engine

If you carnt afford 270 for a bodge management system, can you afford the cost for everything else??

Most of the turbo conversions done on the cheap usually fail prity quick due to one reason or another.

or never work and end up a ebay "slut" going from owner to owner... each putting £XXXX into it, but because the basics are "cheap" it will never work... basically what my donor was... only thing that was any good on that was the intercooler and manifold. and that had thousands spent on it:nutter:

It's not that I can't afford it, rather that I'd like to be able to do as much as I can.

I wasn't aware of megasquirt. It's seems like the best route to go.

I also know what you mean about spi on a turbo engine.

Thanks for the heads up on megasquirt, now to familiarise myself with it.

I can undersign under everything what Craig says. I went my very special own route for turbo fueling and it works brilliant so far (I was actually on the road with my car for 2000km for a few days), but since I am not selling the solution (perhaps at some later point) and after all experience on the way I had with it I say go proper standalone system (don't know if MS qualifies as proper though) and an MPI setup. It is a lot of research, even more soldering (what scared me off :p), but you will get some nice bonuses (not sure if all this with MS): full sequential fuelling, electronic boost control, knock sensing, wide band AFR fuel steering, and easy interfacing to your laptop just to name the few.
