could anybody tell me where i will find the coolant temp sensor on my 97 cinq sporting? i presume this is the sensor than controls the temp gauge as is unusaualy low
thanks
phil

it doesnt seem as hot as it used to be. is there more than one sensor that controls the temp gauge?

There are three temp sensors.

One for the temp gauge, down the back of the engine just above alternator.

One for the cooling fan, in radiator

One for the ECU in the inlet manifold.

The temp gauge one is either working or not, so if you have no delfection it might be the switch (more likely the connection). If there is any deflection its usually telling the truth so your thermostat is jammed open.

He'll be lucky. Cinq is not OBD2 compliant, nor is it digital.

Its down to the meter.

The gauge temp sender is probably giving an accurate reading, particularly if the heater is not roasty toasty.

Check the top hose, it should be cold, then get hot all of a sudden. If it gradually gets warm and doesn't get hot, the thermostat is open when it should be shut.

Hi

Just replace thermostat they dont last for ever, the cool heater and the low temp gauge are sufficient pointers, the top hose should be scalding hot after a run... but I'd not bother getting hands mucky.

cheers ik think il replace the thermostat as its cheap and sounds like a likely problem. would the thermostat being wide open cause the engine to run lumpy? also the temp sensor that is linked to the ecu when you say in the inlet is it in the section of the airbox bolted to the TB? as i might aswell check the resistances of the temp sensor aswell
cheers phil

The coolant temp sensor for the ecu is screwed into the inlet manifold, not in the airbox.

Yes a faulty thermostat would stop the engine reaching its proper operating temp so the management will be overfuelling it.

ok today have taken out my thermostat was in closed position so i tested it and all seems fine anyone any ideas where i go from here? temp sensors?
