hey, i wonder if you can help,

i drive a 2002 Fiat Seicento s and within the last week or so i have noticed that whenever im in 5th gear i can hear a ringing sound when i accelerate, its only when im in 5th and only when i accelerate, if i take my foot off the pedal it goes away.

Anybody have any idea on what this could be?

Also, how do i go about tightening the hand brake? i have to pull it right up as far as i possibly can so its almost vertical or it will roll unless i leave it in gear too

for the gearbox check the gearbox fluid level. you check by removing the allen key bung on the front of the box and sticking your finger in.

the handbrake is adjusted under the car right bellow the leaver there should be a cover that needs removing first.

handbrake could be actuators.

When were the brakes last serviced? If no history, take the drums off and make sure the actuators aren't seized.
