Hi,

need some tool to remove the rear brake drums on the 1.1 cinque.

Anyone tried one of those 3 prong gear pullers? The biggest one, a 6 inch jobby, in my local shops can only go 150mm wide - is that going to be enough?

Noticed that the two drum holes, where the two locator bolts screw in, seem threaded but with a larger diameter than the locator bolts. Is this threading by any chance to allow for larger bolts to be screwed into the drum cover only to aid its extraction, rather than gripping it by the edges?

Thanks,

Richard

yeh they just pull off. if your replacing the outer drum just use a screwdriver and a hammer if not then a soft mallet and hammer it towards the outer of the car. it will work off easy enough.

Haven't tried this yet but looks like there are some M10 bolt holes in the drum where the M8 wheel locator bolts go so going to try the obvious and wind in two M10 bolts which should push the drum cover off.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks.

Do you have wheel bolt or nuts???

If you have nuts then the wheel studs are holding the drum onto the hub.

Yep, Screw 2 x M10 bolts into the retaining pin holes to draw the drum away from the hub. You may encounter some resistance from shoes if there is a big lip on the drum (loosen h'brake cable as much as poss first). This process can chew the edge off the linings, so be prepared to have to replace them (It's a good idea to replace drums, linings and cylinders if you are venturing in-there in the first place; they are cheap enough).

As mentioned above, if your car has studs, you need to remove these first (obviously).

regards,

Ruddy
