Technical Fitting power steering to a Cinquecento

Looking to install power steering on my 99' Seicento Sporting but would like to avoid all the hassle of installing the EPAS-ECU & speed sensor for the simple reason that i cannot acquire the necessary wiring loom.

I would like to know if it would work if i just connect the EPAS motor unit alone to a 12V supply, have it turn-on, on ignition and have a secondary switch to switch it on for parking only. Has anyone ever tried this? Will it work?

Needs the ECU to interpret the torque sensors.

Can be done on a simple switch after that though.

I have a switch on the side of the dash that switches it to full assistance for autotesting and no assistance when driving.

Following this, could I just use the rack from a power steering sei on a non PAS cinq to get a quicker rack ?

I have sent you a PM

I'd like a switch also.

So the old Cinq stalks won't fit on the PAS column?

Is there additional mechanical resistance of the PAS column (meaning heavier steering when you switch it off and no electric power is going to it)?

No, with the power switched off you have manual steering, no power assistance at all.

No different to not having the motor there.
