Hi i'm new to the site but i'v had my car a few months now ( bought it with no mot )

its a seicento sporting michael schumacher 51 reg.
i'm wanting to get the lil car sorted but i'm wondering if i should bother
it seems like these cars a quite prone to failing i.e. headgasket, over heating ect.

the problems with my car are:
Over heating
Needing hand brake cable ( also handbrake/rear drums are quite stiff )
Fit new exhaust
Fit front wiper motor

But the thing thats bothering me most is the over heating.
it DOES NOT seem to be the head gasket as the oil filler cap ect has no milky oil.
iv already tryed a number of times myself to sort out the problem but no result.
iv replaced the thermostat, rad and fan and also bleeding the system.
i'm now goin to take the car to the garage to get the timing belt and water pump done ( i think its the water pump as there seems to be no circulation of water )
does anyone else think this could be the problem??

i'v read alot of the threads on here to over heating problems nothing seems to work.:worship:

the garage is costing £152 for doing the water pump and timing belt.
thats the parts - water pump + timing belt kit and labour.

im hoping that the work done by the garage will sort out the over heating problem but what do i do after that work has been done and its still over heating???:worship:

i dont want to spend loads of money on it as its a cheap car.
iv got around £300-£400 to spend including mot.

would this be worth doing?

cheers in advance for any help.

Hey mate its up to you if you think its worth it some people will say no some say yes, were all fans of this car and I would say yes.

Overheating can be many things I have just done my HG mine was blowing air into the cooling system so no coffe type stuff in the oil filler cap, tbh if I was just doing the head gasket it would have been a simple job, chainging all the bits though is a good start it just means the car will last longer with out problems, best thing to do is have a compression test done this will tell you if the HG might be gone.

Also check the heater matrix there might be a leak in that making the cooling system lose pressure and the water can then boil.

Hope it goes well for you there a great little car to play in.

We will be all bias as all may agree it is well worth fixing.

For 300-400 you will have a very fun car!

Do the belt / pump yourself. IF you suspect is the head gasket, why not pop the head off and see?

I personally miss driving my cinq after like 3/4 hours :p

Cheers guys.
much do you think it would cost to get it pressure tested?
i would do the belt/pump myself but iv not got the time and needing a car asap.
so my options are sort out the sei or just buy another car ( i would rather keep the sei as i do like them )

see to be honest, i would ask them to test it first before carring out the work.

As then you might as well get the head down, because the belt and pump is easily done when they are putting it back together.

yeah but its all comes down to the cost ( thats if the HG was away )
i got told from a garage down my way it would cost £350 to get the head gasket done .now i'v never had to get a HG done on any of my cars before but the price sounds rather dear!
anyone have an idea to how much the test would cost ?
ian

yeh thats what i was thinking.coz i got my redtop engine done last year an it only cost £200 that was with me supplying parts.
im going out 2mro to get started with some of the work, thats if it dont rain.

couldd possible come and give you a hand mate. I'll got a set of usable drums and front wiper motor if you are needing anything ?

As for handbrake being stiff, this is usually rust on the handbrake elbow or the actuator!

Ming

aye that would be a great help mate.
i'v always worked on my own cars but a feel totaly lost when it comes to the sei.
i'v got a wiper motor but i could possibly need another 1 but ad have to look at the 1 i'v got as i cant remember what state its in.
its an easy job doing the drums yeah ?

Hi

If it is not rusty, then DIY.

Some of the water pumps have plastic impellers, they can fall apart, make sure the replacement is not plastic, the FIAT OEM ones can be.

If the engine has been overheated the gasket has probably been compromised.
