Hi all.
My cinq is running fine apart from when i put it into 5th gear, it makes like a whistling noise which gets higher pitched the higher the revs go, nice to think i have a turbo but unfortunatly i dont.
Was wondering if anyone knew what it could be?

doesnt seem to be, i just find it weird that its only when im in 5th gear, as soon as i put it into 5th no matter how fast im going (aslong as its revving obviously) it starts to make a whistling noise.
Someone said it could be my ignition coil causing interferance with my speakers.
Not so sure tho

My Seicento is also making the same noise when in fifth gear and only in fifth gear.
Its not my speakers as the noise can be heard outside, from the look of the onlookers when driving past..!!!
Any help would be appreciated....

Cheers peeps :)

my Cinq Dose this in mid - high revs.. People think i'm supercharged.. lol Its been doing it for the 6 months i have had the car - no problems...

Mine does this when cold, high pitch squeal between 2k and 3k rpm. Goes away once the temp goes up.

In general,

If any noise occurs at a given engine speed in any gear, then its usually engine.

If any noise occurs at a given road speed in any gear, then its usually chassis, ie wheel bearings, but could be diff.

If any noise occurs at a given speed, but only in one gear, the its usually gear related.

There are exceptions, of course, but if the noise in question is in fith gear at a certain speed, then when doing that speed, put the car into neutral. If the noise goes away, its a gear problem. If not, see above.

Cheers

I had an SX cinq with this noise in fifth. It is the gearbox on its way out. Mine sometimes not want to go into fifth cleanly which was abit embarressing when overtaking something only to rev its ******** off when you think youv'e changed gear.
It was dead easy to rid of the noise though. A fortnight after getting the car a drove into the back of a merc who'd slammed on the brakes when I wasn't paying attention. I never heard the noise again.

Very funny Primeruss.....
Well after reading all your posts I think it must be the gearbox on its way out.
Mine does have problems changing to 5th certain times and the noise does go when I clutch down..... Ah well guess I must change the box....
Cheers for all your help people...I have had the whistle that long I hope I don't miss it..!!!! NOT.... ;)

Hello All,

I have a similar problem. When I engage 5th gear cerrrr sound will come, once I press the accelerator it won't. If I leave the accelerator again it will come.

Attached video for reference can anyone suggest to me what could be the problem.

Regards,
Varun
