Hello and i know this has been done to death, but need help. Bought my daughter a 2000 Seicento Sporting with Abarth alloys and kit, 3 years ago. car has been okay bar usual bits replaced through wear etc.
The other day she came home saying yellow key symbol on dash was on while driving. I went out and checked and the car would not start. The rev couter was flicking up and down and a ticking noise could be heard from under the bonnet. I traced this to the red relay by the ECU, immobiliser i believe. I replaced this and the car started and ran for a few days then same again. On checking a thread someone mentioned the earth cable from the inner left wing to gearbox. Checked this and sure enough corroded and pulled out. When i pushed it back in the the erratic rev counter went away and car turned over but would not fire. I replaced the earth cable, but now the code light stays on and car will not start but turns over fine.code went out fine before, fuel pump is priming.
The battery is charged and i have both blue keys,(gen2) which worked fine before.
Does anyone have any ideas what to check next, or what to do. Could it be another earth or wire somewhere i am missing.
Would be grateful for any help, thanks in advance Paul

Just had the same thing on my dashboard. I too have a clicking sound coming from under the bonnet(it is usually heard when the engine is just switched off) Sounds like a whirring noise, a bit like a clockwork motor running down but not as brash. Car started okay though, will explore the earthing problem first then pull the ECU cable...

Any other advice, thanks in advance..

Best

Malcolm

Earth problem for sure for the code light, try the earth on top of the gearbox and to the coil packs, they seem to be the ones that corrode and cause issues first.

For the whirring.clicking when switching off, it'll be you IAC/ICV valve resetting. Don't worry, it's pretty normal :)
