I think you have to remove the bumper for that. It's a bitch of a job, because of seized screws, especially if they have not been touched for a while. Removing the stripes will leave a nasty looking holes in the bumper. But since you are planning on an engine transplant you have to remove the bumper sooner or later.

The gap will be filled, i think a plastic weld or something in that area, and some racing mesh for the opening in the bottom of the bumper, hard to explain when i got it in my head

I think you are planning on something very similar to what I have at the moment, will do some pics over the weekend, so you can see how that looks. I actually bought a new standard bumper (old broke considerably during removal), with no stripes (but with guiding rows) cut some extra holes (not the most tidy work I have ever done :() for the intercooler and oilcooler, painted it body color, and put some mesh on the inside.

I made an edit in photoshop, didnt waste too much time on it, but just to give u an idea.

The two vents in the front left and right under the headlight will be cut open with racing mesh behind them and the grill in the bottom middle will be cut out and mesh will be put behind that one too, the black strips as u can see are gone, trying to get a clean look without having to buy body kits (y)

This morning i had a bit more time so edited the pic a bit further.

As u can see its not super sharp but to give you an idea what im working too.

This is how mine looks like, can't see too much because of the light. I did not just cut out everything, because then too much dirt would be hitting the engine, and this way air passage is reasonable (yes, it could be better):
