i have worked out a way to make cinq brakes work alot better. the rear brakes are useless i know, so when i removed the metal part that connects to the break cable. (it 2 bits on a pivot in middle), i went into garage and got some thin shet metal and formed it around the space where it pushes on the left shoe so it fits in the section which makes contact with it which takes all the play away from the join between the cable and this pivot which i sadly dont know the name of, all i needed was some tin snips a file and a decent bench and vice (y)

Could you please write in English please, not text speak, keep text speak for your mobile!

There are lots of foreign members who find it hard enough translating English, never mind text speak, even i found it hard to decipher some of what you said!

Good innovative thinking, unfortunately you're modifying the design of Fiat's brakes and it may have some nasty repercussions.
The rear brakes are self adjusting, what you need to do is get the handbrake linkages working correctly (or buy new ones) and adjust it all up as per the book. The Cinq rear brakes are only useless if they need maintenance.

well all ive done is removed the play from the rear brakes cos mine are terrible even with new shoes and ive already adjusted the handbrake to no avail. but works 4 me only a suggestion (y)

all i have done is compensated for the fatigue on the brake system over the years :D

My worry is that if this new piece collapses you could be left with either uneven or no rear brakes. I honestly don't think you should modify them.

You do know that the handbrake lever is bolted to the floor with 4 slotted holes, don't you - so more adjustment can be made there.

yeah ano ive had the metal on me car for nearly 2 weeks now maybe more cant remeber and 2 or 3mm plate will hold the stress, it will only work harden over time aswell, but it been fine and i been to scotland in it and all over (y) it nearly same thinkness as metal in mounting on

Or even better go the whole hog and get Punto GT turbo front brakes which have much bigger callipers and bigger vented disc's and bolt straight up no problems, you just need 14" wheels to fit them inside!

The back brakes do very little in stopping a car, something like 10/15% of overall braking, so as long as they are set up right and are maintained they should be good, the handbrake on my Cinq is excellent, its no worse than any other drum operated hand brake I've had. You have to be very careful in increasing the rear brake power as it can make a very difficult to control car under heavy braking with the back end locking up.

It is always worth renewing your brake fluid at the recommend intervals of every 24month as it does make a difference.

Aaron.

everything ive done to my cinq on the brakes is just to compensate 4 the wear and tear from over the years i got brand new shoes on and with these kinda spacers on, the car dosnt role down the drive anymore that how bad the brakes are on my car even thou i adjusted them as much as possible (n)
