Technical Red Injector warning light comes on.

Amber coloured key with CODE written below it.

Can you believe I have never noticed that light before?
Ok so there could be a couple of reasons for that. Immobiliser ring around the ignition could be faulty/dodgy wire somewhere.
The key could be faulty. Is it the original or a copy?

Is the key in good condition? Sometimes we see original keys that are maffed.
Is it the only key you have? You don't have the Brown/Red one?

Key is in good condition and is the only one I have. I havent got a code card with the 5 digit number that I need to do an emergency start up procedure so I have contacted my local Fiat dealership.
They want £35.00 + VAT to tell me what my 5 numbers are !!!!!!

UK insurance insisted that these cards were not distributed with the vehicles to prevent easy key cloning. Have you tried a simple reset by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it? Otherwise a cheaper fix would be to get a mckrich chip or similar to disable the immobiliser.

You might want to try a local Auto Locksmith, they should be able to get it cheaper than your dealer will.

They were also too expensive! Is there any way I can start my car without first getting my five digit code? I don't understand why fitting new coil packs, plugs and leads has given me this key code problem as all I had as my original problem was a faulty coil pack! Can anybody help as I am totally puzzled?

Have you checked the wiring (as suggested earlier by Tinkerbert) to the ignition switch/immobiliser ring? The chip in your key will communicate with the car via the ring and if it has no signal from the ecu, the ecu in turn will assume an illegitimate key. It's not a brand new car so the wiring could be in poor condition or may have just worked loose and been pulled out when you changed the coils over. I believe there is a wiring diagram in the back of the Haynes manual :)

Sometimes, when working on electrics and disconnecting the battery the ECU will go out of sync with the chip in the your key. When that happens it is a case of manually re-syncing and unfortunately that means you need that code.

Personally I would find the cheapest Auto-Locksmith and get it from them.
It's a shame you're not a lot closer as we could get it for you. At discounted, forum member rate of course

Sounds like it could be a sync issue then.
I'll find out on Monday if I can get you the code to resync just from VIN and Reg

Hey.

I've had a look into getting the code for you and it would work out much cheaper and easier if you got it from Fiat.

Sorry mate.

Hi Tinkerbert,
Many thanks for your help. It looks like I will have to pay Fiat £35 + Vat to give me 5 numbers. This is my first Fiat and it will definately be my last. (n)
