Forget it. It will destroy the engine (bore wash). There are lower temperature fan switches and lower temperature thermostats out there.

how will it destroy the engine surely it would just keep the engine cold and thats what you want isnt it :) nd can you explain what bore wash is ive never heard of it
thanks alex

bore wash is when the car over fuels and causes the bores of the cylinders to wear out, the wear is caused by the gap on the piston rings as they erode the metal and cause scoring, making the cylinder block past economical repair for these cars

so with the car being cold all the time it over fuels and causes this, for the sake of a thermostat you risk the engine

ahhh thanks for that it is true you do learn something new everyday :D so then the question is where do i get a low temperature thermostat from :p
sorry about the 21 questions but its needed ;)

Seems that your thermostat is stuck open. From cold check the rad inlet pipe from the thermo housing, if this warms with at same as engine, then thermostat is open, if its only gets warm when the engine is warm, then your thermostat is ok, if that is the casue check your temp sender.

I best check it out.
I have not had the car long, so still getting to know her.
I thought 50 was a bit low, so is 90 the normal running temp?

John

hmm guys... the oil temp ran off the clock this morning (130 degree+) while the water temp stay the normal (just under 90) ....

How is this possible? Dodgy guage?

Thanks
Ming

That is way too hot, you still got the oil cooler fitted if so is it blocked? are you running the right grade of oil? is it an electric sender for the oil gauge?

I never saw that temp on the tubby even if I had been caning it for miles.

Oil temp wise I would expect around 95/105ish in normal use going up to 115ish after extended periods of hard use.

I got the oil cooler removed, as the rubber seal on the plate is damaged and is causing a leak.

The oil sender is screw into the bit next to the oil filter. Think is a eletric sender guage ...

Am using halfords 10/40, semi-syth.

I'll double check the level of the oil. But checked it before i left, i could feel it on the dip stick.
