re: slow build 16v cinq

got a little bit of work done today after i sorted out the other one:slayer:

sound deadening around the front is all off there's some weight in it

dropped the whole rear wheel set-up off in one, i was dreading the bolts but the came out in a breeze but they look skanky so some new stuff shiny stuff il never see but hey :D, gotta say there's some serious weight in the whole assembly !

would anyone know where i could get my hands on a new set of fuel lines as these solids ones dont look very nice

havent been looking into the wiring and J.K racing never got back to me (n)

re: slow build 16v cinq

ok went to fiat today, ordered the 4 bolts that hold the rear sun-frame to the chassis (curse you odd thread pitches) and they charged me ...£8.77! for 4 dam bolts

other then that got the rear suspension stripped down and ive cut/sheared the original nuts off for the shock absorbers as im going to weld on new ones with better cap head bolts which look the part
DSC00827.jpg
had a good 2-3 hours on the sub-frame getting rust off it only about halfway

gearbox is cleaning up nicely
DSC00825.jpg
turned it on its side and had rather alot of oil come out for a drained box

a snap of under the car before ive done anything to it, also found that the rust on the batter tray has gone into the cabin (n)

sad car how it stands now

lowered the steering by about 15mm so that should make it better for when it goes together

Ash(y)

re: slow build 16v cinq

How did you lower it ? Just use longer bolts?

im not telling :nerner:

there's 2 bolts (what you space) and 2 nuts that hold the steering column on slacken the two rear nuts off, you then slacken a long bolt going horizontally under the steering column (holding two parts of the bracket together) and then remove the two bolts holding the column on

you will need longer bolts for this (i had some random ones around me) mine ended up like this from the bottom up, bolt, spring washer, bracket and then 8 washers on each side (lowered around 15mm) and then i bolted it back up

tighten up the two nuts and bolt and where about you like it, these 3 bolts can give you some forwards/backwards movement and the long bolt to give up/down movement

il get some pictures up tomorrow if you want any ?

hope that made sense

re: slow build 16v cinq

yeah,

Did the horizontal bolt went back int the same place yeah ?

And see the 2 bolts that need replacing, did you have to hammer them out ?

ming

horizontal bolts goes straight back in as there is space on the bracket gets spaced for adjustment

the two bolts that need replacing just unbolt, you will have to unbolt these last when taking it apart as the key barrel is in the way

Ash

re: slow build 16v cinq

info on spacing for ming.

original bolt on the left to show how long and spaced the new one is, two bolts are like this
DSC00830.jpg

the spaced bracket, you can see two two holes in the bracket that give it some for and back movement, bracket hasn't been modified like that
DSC00831.jpg

spaced and placed back in place you can see how much of a angle it has now
DSC00832.jpg

held it roughly in place at its original angle just for comparison
DSC00833.jpg

hope that helps

EDIT: this car as just become a nut and bolt rebuild while im at it :D

re: slow build 16v cinq

tiny update, went to the scrappy today just as they opened and my luck was in 2 punto sporting's so that was coils and carrier off the one but it only had half a key otherwise i could of had the locks

the other one thow (as i was dismantling the coils had its roof crushed and then thrown on the scrap pile, it had the really old engine, like hte punto gt lump but it wasnt a turbo:confused: was a 5 door(n)

rear beam filly done of rust now to weld and paint

re: slow build 16v cinq

just a small list of work that i can back check to

welding;
.front bumper mount plate
.front chassis rail to cross-member
.front jacking point strengthening - any idea
.front battery tray corner to cabin
.4-5 holes in floor pan from under sound proofing
.create bracket and modify pedal box for clutch piston
.new bolts onto the rear axle and swing arms
.cut out and weld up battery tray extension
.cut and weld short shifter and reverse inhibitor
rusty surface's;
.rear n/s under arch tatty
.rear n/s chassis rail bubbling where axle mounts
.front o/s sill no paint at seam
.front o/s arch no paint at back
.front cross member under seam sealer
.various other sports
.front o/s front wishbone no paint

other bits;
,clean and hammerite;
.water reservoir Bottle
.front tow eye
.EVAP system bracket
.horn and dip light resistor holder
.both wing supports under front wings
.fan bracket
.maybe brake servo and brackets
. underseal car
.new brake lines
.replace radiator hoses
.finish taking sound-proofing of floor and spray
.cut holes in bulkhead for gear linkages and grommet/seal
.cut threaded rod for short shifter supports
.hammerite rear axle and swing-arms

sounds so simple and quick when you don't think about it

anyone have any idea for the front jacking points as i've found nada on them(y)

re: slow build 16v cinq

Had a good poke around the n/s rear and found that id i look from hte inside from behind the panel i can see a bit of light, seems the inside rear arch skin where it meets at and bottom of arch covering the sill has a bit of rot

well cleaned it up as best as i could due to being an awkwars position and acid etch primer with hammerite to stop it along with some other areas i took some rust away from

also got some of the engine may bits painted up in black, EVAP canister holder, horn and dip resistor holder done up washer pumps plate the holds the pedal box on under arch bar, looks really swanky with new bolts

re: slow build 16v cinq

hmm has anyone had any experience with the clips that go into the sill to hold the front wings on, one came out easy but the other seems to be broken with teh bolt on with no way to get to it:doh:

other then that got one wing off cleaned hte rust under there treated it and gave some hammerite on the treated areas so thats ready for under-seal and il do some repair work on the wing ready for it to go back on

got the welder today wasn't a MIG but an arc so il just make do

EDIT: also got the pedal box apart today and looking at ways to connect the hydralic cylinder just only worry is that there might not be enough room to clear the alternator but carnt check till its done an il have to get it sort of right for the pedal height and the ability to push the cylinder all the way

re: slow build 16v cinq

how hard was it to remove the front wing?
good to see there is a lot of progress on your car

Many Thanks

JP

rather easy

about 7 bolts, there's one on the sill one at the top back of hte wing hidden under the door and the bolts ontop just loosen the two bolts that hole the bonnet on as it can be pulled out sideways from under it

there is also sealant across the top and side so a scrapper and hammer makes it easier and then just pull it off, the sealant will probably take the pain off when you try get it off so hammerite time!

its been very heavy rain over last 2 days, so only got brake servo, master cylinder, holder for the rear brake pressure valve things and those painted up along with fan holder in red

im having to look at mating a punto and cinq pedal box up and then modifying the bulkhead with possibly a spacer to get the right amount of leverage on the clutch cylinder

re: slow build 16v cinq

ok will have to buy a replacement panel and then switch it over, im liking the idea of red fan holder, might have to do that myself :)
keep up the good work it will be worth it in the end..
did your car have a lot of white smoke come out of it when it had my engine in it?

Many Thanks

a little when it was started up but soon went as it started to warm up

its not smoking alot is it ? im just hoping that rad weld hasn't done anything too it

the fan holder is really annoying to do as its odd shape and bends make you miss quite abit of rust if you dont go over it with a good eye
