hope it works

oh for pissing hell well the shimms are new and gapped right there is no visable damage to the buckets or the cam but there again i am no expert

ok so do you have any ideas as to how to solve this problem?

this maybe a stupid question but could the valve springs be tired and causing this problem?

cam hitting the cam cover? is that a possibillity then?

you need to ask yourself what did the top end sound like before you added the 866 cam

what did the the cam sound like in the p75?

well the cam came from a breakers and it did have this sound before i put the cam in but i think its a little worse which is why i really dont think its the cam

to be honest i am almost ready to rip the lump out and put something else in (bigger)

so here is my next question what engines will fit and bolt to the standard cinq box and has the same engine mounting points

i am thinking 1.4 8v or 16v

you may find this offensive. its not meant to. im being truthful,
but you have had so much problems with the engine and it sounds like its getting worse the more you do and the more you touch.
taking it out and then fitting a 1.2/1.4 16v is gonna give you a lot of headache if you are still learning fiats you dont seem to be having a lot of luck with your spanners doing a simple head job cam change

spend some more time with what you have, learn about it and once youve found out whats wrong you can progress onto further things.

imho don't push a problem aside and try to cure it with something more taxing.

fit a 1242 8v spi and dont touch the internals. add a decent exhaust, bigger t/b and up the fuel pressure and leave it at that.

don't think anyone has got their 1.4 8v running without management light with the punto ECU.

thanks for the advise tony i am thinking alot of the problems with this car and engine is coming from the fact it has been used and abused in its past and driven by new drivers as thier first car and they haven't cared about it as long as it works i have had cars in the past where i have done all the work on them myself and never had a problem but this one is doing my head in. in the past i had a p55 which i stripped the engine down and rebuilt and had no problems and it ran fantastic but it had been owned by an old lady and had very low miles and had been looked after i am starting to think i have bought a mutt so time i think i should give up on this motor and seriously think about giving it a heart transplant and do it properly by taking the car off the road for a week or 2 and make sure the engine is right before it goes anywhere near the car ie HG, oil seals, gap the cam, 866 cam, 40mm TB, etc etc

but the question i have is how much damage am i likely to do by continueing to drive this car with engine like this while i prep the new engine(1242 8v spi)

yup that is now the plan just been along to see the guy i have been talking to about the supercharger upgrade (owns and races the worlds fastest bmw mini cooper) and his mechanic has said it is a problem with something in the valves and the seating that is the problem and it is also causing the misfire too and his recommendation is a new engine but hear it running before i buy it which is the plan so i am now looking for a car with good engine

Recon you could pick up a Punto 60 pretty cheap, then just sell the bits you don't need :).

Remember the later P60 engine has the P75 cam fitted :D

really thats good to know it would mean i wouldn't have to source or swap this cam over cos i am not to sure if i can be bothered with the hassle of swapping the cam

The 866 cam has a higher lift so the valves open more and slam shut harder. The tapping will be a mixture of cam on shims and valves on valve seats.
I rebuilt an engine that had done 28k and fitted an 866 cam with only 2k on it and had to check the shims again because of the tapping.

One thing I've noticed with these engines is the piston pins gum up and make the pistons stick. This creates scorring on the back of the piston skirts.

ok found out when i pulled the lump out what the tapping noise was it was the piston in pot 4 eating the liner so yeah it was terminal and nothing to do with the cam so spare 866 cam will be going up for sale too
