Hi to all i changed the clutch cable on my seicento 1500 miles ago and has drove fine but now i have to slam it into reverse with bad grinding... or start the car in reverse with clutch depressed... hoping i need to adjust cable
ideas please !

I seem to have the same problem and have to keep adjusting the cable, otherwise my car won't go into gear at all with the engine running. Once adjusted, i can drive 6/7 miles and by the end of it i have to adjust it again

The clutch pedal doesn't seem heavy at all, although as i drive it seems to be losing travel..

Am i right in thinking all it needs is a new cable?

thanks

hi i had the same problem but i found that where the small plastic pivot lever connects to a small squareish bracket in the passenger footwell aera had broken its spot welds. to repair it i had to remove the dashboard and remove the end of the bracket and reweld it but a little stronger than 2 spot welds and now its fine.
hope you find the fault.

paul

Thanks Rallycinq! i have tried other ones and they wouldnt work, thats the first working one i've seen other than the one at the dealer (y)

Higgsey, if it's not just the cable i'll be looking there too! (y) Thanks, i think it is just the cable though.. even if it did take a few long months of stretching before it went

Nathan: dont buy a cable froma dealer. motorfactors will have them in for £10-15.

also does the threaded rod on the cable only have one nut on it? if so once the cable is adjusted, fit another nut and tighten it against the other so it is locked in place.

the cable twists a little when you press the clutch, so every time you press it the looser it becomes.

kirkbykidda: adjust the cable like
rallycinq said. the clutch and break peddles should be more or less level

Didnt bother with a motor factor, i could have saved a few £ but it said Ricambi on it so i was happy. I was surprised how easy it was to change the cable, as i've read on here it can be a b1tch of a job. I've only gone as far as front pads and a rocker cover gasket before  . I did read the 899 cable guide (i know it's different) although i used basic tools at most.

Craig, might follow your advice about putting another nut on the threaded rod.. as at the moment i can adjust it with just my fingers.. so obviousy it can loosen by itself (y)

As of now, i'm a happy centoer :p (touch wood, fingers crossed, smashing no mirrors)
