Ive got a 2001 sei sporting and have just changed the breather pipe off rocker cover for a new 1 because the old 1 was split. While changing it i noticed on the old 1 the small pipe which branches off had a metal insert in it almost blocking the hole. The new pipe was clear. when i put the new pipe on it idles about 2000rpm and keeps revin by itself. if i remove this pipe while its running and cover the hole with my finger it ticks over just over 500rpm. Any ideas as to why it does this? Whats the correct idle speed for these cars?

yeh its got the standard airbox, when i disconnect it you can hear it suckin in air. its nxt to tb

So its definately a vacuum pipe, not a breather.

would resettin the ecu make any difference?

Absolutely not.

You need to replumb the system to have the right vacuum pipe in the right hole.

Cheers

it is the right pipe, it cant go anywhere else. Its the pipe that comes off rocker cover to under the airbox with the small pipe branchin off. should there be a metal insert in the pipe? the idle does get better as it warms up, it ticks over bout 1100rpm.

Ive screwed a screw in to the small pipe an it seems to be tickin over better now. Still would like to know what the problem is though? in an earlier thread some mentioned that they swapped the 2 hoses around on the back of the throttle body to cure this problem. Is that on or spi or mpi? Ive ordered 1 of them manuals off ebay today. hope its got a diagram of the throttle body for me.
