had the car 3 weeks and its already showing some potential problems.

when i try to engage 1st gear sometimes its really stiff and feels like its pushing against something. ive noticed that if i hover the clutch pedal about and inch or so above the floor it goes in easier.

all the other gears are fine and it seems to get better the longer i drive.

is this a clutch problem or a gearbox one?

Ive got the same problem and when i put it into reverse it crunches. but when youve drove it for a bit it goes...

tha clutch cable has just gone though so maybe it will be better after thats been changed

Mine was a new clutch when i bought it, but has a similar problem and should have been 'bedded in' ages ago.

And yes all cinqs have the gear problem.

If the car does not want to go into first, DO NOT force it. Select 2nd gear, then move the lever straight forward. Do not need to lift the clutch either in 2nd or between gears. The 2nd gear syncro may be worn less and once the gearbag has stopped moving, by the selection of 2nd gear, then the alignment should be right for selecting first, they are on the same hub.
