Heyy, driving back from Derby on sunday and my lil baby seicento decides to completely die (n)

It went from running absolutely sweet like chocolate one second to dead and missfiring like a canal barge the next. It barely starts up and when it is running it is only going on 2 cylinders at most and rattles like crazy once the RPM's are raised above 3k. Ive had the airbox off and propperly checked all the spark plugs, leads and the coil pack and found no faults. All sparking as expected. I have now taken the head off and replaced the gasket which had a slight gap between the 2nd and 3rd cylinder, which i hope is what has caused the problem. We will see later on when i put it all back together. But somehow i dont think the gasket was the cause of the major problem, it was running absolutely fine 2 mins before it broke down, no tell tale signs of head gasket failure, i.e. oil and water mixing, crap being kicked out of the exhaust, heater still blows hot air and no overheating....

Has anyone else had a similar experience with their sei? Is there anything else i could check?

Cheers

I hope you got the head skimmed before refitting.

The blow between 2 and 3 is quite common, usually shows up as a lousy idle. Its still a blown head gasket, not all blown headgaskets result in water and oil mixing.

Cheers

Hi David

Experience is a hard school to learn in - been there - also forgotten to check bores, compression ring way outside tolerances...

It was the head gasket. Huuuge gap between 3rd n 4th cylinders and slight gap on the backside. All fixed now  including a new timing belt.

Running wayy beta thn it did before, no flatspots, sounds nice and healthy slightly quicker(y)
