well today ive been taking a look at this fuse holder/unit behind the battery. Ive been having a major overheating issue (ie. fan not working and no heat coming out the blowers) going on so i decided to take some time to inspect it.

Firstly what came to sight was the condition of the four large fuses..they were not blown but showed signs of heat damage as each one had melted in the corners... by the way they are the correct fuses!

I took them out to see heat damage to the fuse holder itself
and especially around where the fuses plug in. Again signs of melting with crusty looking charred plastic...not loads but enough to be concerned about.

Anyway I decided to change a few of the fuses for some spares that I have..which I did and this is the weird bit, the car wouldn't start. It turned over fine but wouldn't fire up. Going back to the fuses I noticed that the fan fuse had popped so I replaced it with the original melted fuse and the car fired up right away.

Id understand If it had been the ignition fuse or something but the fan fuse????

Does anybody have any Ideas about this one..Im thinking that the fuse unit is extremely buggered!!

Extremely fubared and possibly an earth issue.

Cheers

thats what I was thinking, next problem is removing the 4 wires that go into the unit itself. They wont just pull out i guess i will need to cut them ..ive been offered a donor unit from a guy breaking his seicento on evil bay. His is a spi but mines a mpi do you think the units will be the same? as for the earth point on them i dont have a clue

Ive just been looking at the unit again, It looks like the last owner got a bit confused when it came to replacing the fuses.

The fuse carriage has a cover that will only fit on one way..It only fits on correctly if the fuse information stamped on the cover is facing the bulkhead so essentially the wrong way round is the right way. When I looked at it it was facing the wrong way thus where the 40A fuse is where the 60A should be and the 60A is where the 40A should be. The two 30 Amps are correct.

Ive managed to remove the unit and theres a fair amount of melted plastic on the underside where the power supply is bolted on. Im guessing this is the reason why my engine management light is on and hopefully why my fan does not work...
