Have decided against the coating for the mo, until ive had the car running for a little while. Never recieved an e-mail back. Shame.

Modified clutch cable bought as no record of when it was last replaced.
£28.50 Delivered from ricambio international via ebay

Managed to get a sealey 1.2 16v timing/locking set code: VSE2511
for £18.59 via ebay. For future reference you can buy new from shop for parts for similar price but does not contain the timing tools.

As the car is going to need a larger diameter exhaust made up (50mm / 2" ) It would work out around £600 for a half decent exhaust inc sports cat. So i think i can have my own made up for a fraction of the cost, or at least have some fun playing with metal tubing. The idea is to buy all the mandrel bends, piping, silencers, cat, flexi and tip, cut it to correct size using my old exhaust as a template. This will then be welded by a local welding company to ensure its done properly. Flanges will also be put either side of the cat and flexi so i have the option of decating, it also means the flexi can be replaced in the future without taking whole sytem off. It also gives enough room to be able to drop the engine out without removing exhaust. So from manifold back is all going to be stainless steel. and have started buying parts. :p

200 cell sports cat from germany ebay from kaido-autosport. This was £95 delivered. Came in 4 days, well packaged and looks a good qualtiy.

2" 150x 50 Flexi from ebay: £20 delivered

1m x 10mm bar exhaust hanger. Measuring the old hangers this should be plenty. £11.50 delivered from pipe-werx

Am very tempted by the setup aaron did using the cherry bombs as they have superb flow, are quite compact and fairly cheap.

20m of 4.8mm > 50mm spiral wrap to cover bay wiring = £11 delivered

2 x new hub nuts from shop4parts and 2l of Tutela Car ZC75 Synth gearbox oil. £35 delivered.

Set or Sport ARB bushes from Strong-flex.eu. £28 delivered. Cheaper than ordering from ebay.

Is it not possible to do it without the tool ? could we not just line up the timing mark ?

Ming

well thats ebay for ya, you get some you miss some

its possible to do it by timing marks but sending a load on an engine would you risk it :p? i wouldnt

also you time it by having all the pistons all at the same level (half way between tdc and bdc) and cam has two notches for timing

Ermm what do you do when you have taken the head off. How do you find TDC to lock the cam then ?

Ming

you don't lock it to TDC, you lock in the one place it'll lock with the tools. The bottom end is brought to mid-point on all 4 cylinders (this is found by placing dowels in plug hole and turning until they are all level)

no, there are no marks. the cam must be locked and then you tension it by loosening the cam pulley, applying the tension and then tightening it up

Ah so as long as it locks with the tool then the timing is correct ? Guess there must only be one place that it will lock with the tool ?

thanks

Ok, according to Aaron, anything with similar sized wheels should have similar ratios, which should bring up some cheaper options than the 1.4's.

Negative camber bolts bought from Venom motorsport. Works out at £25 inc delivery. http://www.venommotorsport.com/product_details.php?id=6721&manufacturer=Eibach Alignment&category=suspension

Cherry bomb 2" silencer bought, which should keep the flow nicely. £45 delivered from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/partsorama

Exhaust parts arrived. Wahoo. Think you may be able to get away with 1m of straight tubing. Will have to see. Just need the flanges and rubber hangers now.

The tip is a bit smaller than i would have liked, looks exactly like a standard tip, but will do for now. Anyway heres some pics.

It is slightly longer than its going to be as i will be cutting some of the bends shorter.

Immobiliser connected back up, new ECU fits perfectly in original position even though its alot larger, modified clutch cable fitted (definately a better design) Head removed, exhaust removed, all wiring removed, all oils drained, induction kit built and headlight bolt replaced with self tapper. Only things left to remove before dropping engine out are the 2 driveshafts and the 3 engine mounts.

Looks a dull colour, but is a nice pure black.

Right, well thats the engine bought. :D

50,000 miles

Complete, including inlet mani, alt, starter, 6 speed gearbox, fly, etc. Including tax and delivery £600. Very happy with that.

Get delivered on tues. So will spend weds fitting new parts and get it bolted in ready to start the real fun.

Engine is out of car (without removing the gearbox :p) as i thought my 32 nut was a 30. That was suprisingly easy though. Just need to remove box tonight and can remove selector ready for fitting to new box.
