Technical turbo upgrade!

I know it's a long way away, but if you're passing through do drop in and I'll take you for a spin in the black one. Top fun.

Pete I may take you up on this as my sister has invited me up to 'Boro to go clubbin with her!

If the turbo's from a 90bhp jobby, then it should be the right one.

Yep, that's the MF2 ok.
Van Aaken set them up with an extra map sensor to drive the 2nd injector.

I took all the turbo gubbins off the 1108 and swapped them over onto the 1242, made up a spacer plate to go between the manifold and turbo for clearance reasons. It's little different from doing a non turbo 1108 - 1242 swap.

Does your turbo struggle to get the power onto the black stuff at all?

As with my 1242 I quite often run out of grip and just sit there wheel spinning  (running on Pirellis)

Nope. Got Conti 175/50 13"s on standard wheels to keep good acceleration and it grips really well. Want an uprated ARB to go on it though, that does help when putting power down out of corners.

In the wet it's easy to spin the wheels, but in the dry it just tries to reel in the horizon when you floor it :D

To an extent...from what Ive seen / heard / ligged...yes.

The turbo's easy enough, the Fuel controller (MF2) can be bought from Aquamist and that should drive any injector (find a scrappers), the other wiring and plumbing in shouldnt be rocket science, then theres just the exhaust to think of, which again, with some imagination = sorted!!

The only prob is the MAP signal..AFAIK the ECU goes a bit mental if it detects +ve pressure in the manifold, so the signal needs to be blocked so the ECU is fooled to think the air is at the maximum it would normally be on an N/A car...or something like that...Thats where VA come in, they do a MAP blocker, but its £200, I think a proficient electronicist (not me!! ;)) could develop a circuit to give a fixed output at a certain threshold and fool the MAP...

Then theres the oil feed to the turbot, the oil pump needs adapting to take a spur line off to the 'charger, and to carry the 'charger return line...a machininst might be able to help there, but im not sure, cos' yurde need to know thread sizes and what not!!

Complicated, but by no means impossible!

Thanks for that Tom, a good welder fabricator could do the manifold I'd think but looking at the list of stuff, the VA price doesn't look so expensive now.

Well, I dunno, cos I still stand by what I said about electronics people, Im sure someone could do something very easily!

Thing to bear in mind is Turbo ~£200, MF2 ~£210, then yada yada

I reckon if yu knew the right people (MAP blocker, Exhaust adaptation and oil feed adaptation), yu could get the bits together for ~£700, but then again, the extra £300 for a professionally developed and thoroughly tested product seems a better option to me!

I think the best bet is get the LP Turbo, then make it HP... :D

Yeah there was some really good stuff there. When you look at the install on mine there is a nice braided oil feed pipe to the turbo & a return that goes straight to the sump, plus there is a whole host of that heat protective stuff put round the pipes near the turbo. Plus the bit on top of the intake with the extra injector is made of nice shiny metal which looking at the pics of others Cinq's is def not standard, & I must say the way the injector is mounted is very neat. I know mine has an intercooler but the air intake is no where near where the original is with metal & silicone pipes being utilised to position it to the right hand side of the engine bay. The 2nd ECU is mounted under the dash on the passenger side of the car.

I think if any one was attempting to do it themselves, it would be wise to either have a Cinq already turbo'd to be able to copy, or have copious amounts of photographs highlighting the changes.

Aaron.
